About the political plot... this can be an eternal loop, just think in a possible Mifune and Danzou's previous pact. Raikage's face was saying it... probably they now can understand why Naruto was asking him to stop this non-sense.

Akatsuki in fact was acting as mercenaries, but we know that Orochi wasn't member of Akatsuki by the time of the chuunin's exam arc. Not to mention that no one of the 5 kage have a single trace of confidence in the rest is the perfect place to grow hate between them.

On another note, how cool was it to see Kankuro using the remains of Sasori's body as his new puppet? Ironic, poetic and SO NOT creepy he now tinkers with dead body puppets instead of wood ones.....honestly.

What I want to know is, why in the meeting they haven't brought up the fact that Konoha has been kicking Akatsuki's butt at each encounter? I know they lost Asuma and Jiraiya but considering the size of Akatsuki it's still a massive win. I'd have thought Danzou would be bragging Konoha's strength over the other villages.

Because they're losses but Akatsuki still exists... Danzou's first goal is to be Hokage, one step at the time... that's why he said that they are dealing with Madara, that was a big impact on the Kages, now they know what they're dealing with.

Sasori's Hundred Puppet Technique helped to destroy a small country, so if Kankuro has control of such a technique (via Sasori's body), then Kankuro will have received a massive upgrade.
