Eh...I don't think a scarf would look that great with the school uniform...it might obscure the whole loosened tie and unbuttoned top button ensemble, which I think is pretty important for his image.

The same merits as Haruki seeking Xenos, Psykers, and Time Travelers.

Also because the scarf would be an expression of a free flowing spirit(like the early WW1/WW2 era airplane pilots as well as the hot blood feel. A Yellow scarf around his neck in a loose drape may give a nice touch to Haruki that a head band would not do.

The thing is, I don't think Haruki is suppose to be a badass mecha pilot. It's one thing to have an aura of free expression or something, but it's another thing to take it overboard completely. To go overboard would be to gloss over or ignore other important aspects of Haruki's personality, as we know there's more to him that just unadulterated madness and energy. Haruhi herself doesn't usually dress much out of the ordinary, especially when it comes to her school clothes, which is actually helpful because it lets us take her much more seriously during the few (but important) serious moments. She makes her presence felt not necessarily by her appearance, but by her actions. Treating Haruki any differently might dilute this important aspect of the character.

Or I'm just overthinking this. Meh...

Chippendales are male strippers that appear in PlayGirl magazines and such.

They also have these sleeveless white tuxedo shirts which tend to vanish quickly.
