Oh hell no. My grandparents from Japan always happen that term when I was younger. (Not to me of course)

When I asked my dad and his sister what it meant, they told me out straight about the term being derogatory

It's often misused by the foreigner themselves, just like the term "Otaku", due to rule of funny. Gaijin Smash being shining example.

If you take it to level of rudeness, this might be equivalent to "Fucking Foreigner". And hell pour down upon student being rude (and we're talking about girls here, when exactly they swore in canon?)

If said foreigner used it however, might earn either a laugh or a weird glance, and someone WILL correct and explain about the term.

Yeah pretty much the case, considering that they are VERY old-fashioned Japanese personalities.

Of course there's always inverse case, Japs is a very rude mean to call Japanese.

I think Ichika swear once or twice (Shit, Damn, Bitch), Laura too. American soldiers swears a lot when Madoka slaughter them (culturally appropriate). The rest I don't know, but almost everyone is neutral or polite.

Anyway, Eras, the correct term as of now would be Gaikokujin, which means "Foreign-country Person". And even more polite Gaikoku no Kata, "Person of another country"

Gaijin means "Alien Person" and "Outsider", and historically used to refer to foreign enemies.

@ Senpai - I'm surprised no one ever used Gaijin or its equivalents before in IS. Considering it's full of foreigners, I'm surprised there's no tension or discrimination at all.

Side note - I fit more into the "Ambigously brown" field. I'm less tan than most filipino's and speak english with an accent (I don't know how I got it). Most people assume I'm half-american.
