That line is actually significant because it was a lesson Tony had to learn for himself, and was pretty much the underlying lesson behind Iron Man 3. Tony's last line in that movie pretty much connects to that particular line here:

"My armor was never a distraction or a hobby, it was a cocoon, and now I'm a changed man. You can take away my house, all my tricks and toys, but one thing you can't take away - I am Iron Man."

Note how Tony initially tried dealing with Toomes' weapon dealing in this movie:

He didn't go all Iron-Man against the weapon deals on the ferry, instead he called in the FBI and had them try and take care of the problem. It was only due to Peter's interference and the ferry breaking up that Tony had to suit up as Iron Man to save them.

Note how different this is from what he did in the first Iron Man movie: as soon as Stark hears how his own weapons are being sold, he goes out himself as Iron Man to stop it.

Except IIRC Toomes knew he'd been made before seeing Peter. When he grabbed his super gun and put on his alien armor, Tony bloody well should have gone full Iron Man. But hey, Toomes had to bisect the boat.
