Best current Shojo Anime to download?

I am looking for the most popular as well as the best Shojo Anime from the last couple of years to present. particularly available in fansub. I like variety so unusual ones are also interesting to me.

I enjoy most things from Clamp and Fushigi Yuugi was very good. I also Like Sailor Moon so my tastes are pretty diverse.

Most of the stuff I have been liking lately has been from the Shonen side of things. I know there must be something good going on in Shojo. Any Suggestions would be much appreciated.

2 series began this season.
Maria-Sama ga Miteru
Gokusen

These series are aimed for an older audience than Sailor Moon. They may be the best of the winter season.

Sailor Moon is undergoing a revival centered around Sailor Moon Live Action series. Sailor Moon fans seem to enjoy this.

All of these shows are currently being fansubbed and there are threads for each series in the Fansubs forum.

Fruits Basket is a very good shoujo series which ran recently and has been licensed. Here is the official website.

Series like Sailor Moon are mahou shoujo (magical girl) shows. In another thread I posted this list of mahou shoujo series available as fansubs.

I'm surprised you never suggest Kodomo no Omocha, Babbito

As for suggestions, grab Ultra Maniac and Full Moon wo Sagashite from Animesuki, they're great shoujo.

Actually it's based on a josei (women's) manga.

thanks for the suggestions.

I am currently checking into everything you mentioned.

I am actually running an Anime room at a small con. We are trying to show new things that most people haven't seen yet. That is why I'm looking for current stuff. Most of what we have is shounen so far. Not good as Anime fans are 50/50 split between the genders as far as I know.

Besides a lot of guys like Shoujo anime too. I was introduced to fansubs by watching Fushigi Yuugi with a bunch of guys who all loved it. ( I was actually only familiar with watching tapes of raw video at the time)

I'm hoping Funimation is sending us Fruits Basket but I don't know yet. We told them to send us shows not currently on TV. I like promoting new things at cons plus people have been complaining about the lack of new material at this particular con.

Gokusen looks like something I personally will really like. Nice art style interesting premise.

Shoujo - enjoyed by a young/adolescent female audience in general
Bishoujo - lots of cute girls running around, generally enjoyed by a male audience.

Unless they really screwed around the plot of Mezzo, I don't think it's a shoujo anime.

Ippo is actually not a bad recommendation for shoujo. Except for the fights the show is quite girly imo.

Noone has mentioned Princess Tutu yet. Has all shoujo elements and is different. I think it's a must see.

Kare Kano is great... licensed though.
It's got a touch of romance, interesting characters, and lots of great laughs.
I'll also second Fruits Basket, though I think it tends to be too sugar coated and yaoi filled for some guys to bear comfortably.

I will second the Princess Tutu recommendation... Great show.

Cosmic Baton Girl Comet-san is very cute, and while aimed at a young audience, it can be quite entertaining, though it is fairly typical magical girl stuff.

Full Moon wo Sagashite is heart-warming/heart-wrenching. The story is really good (though fair warning, the songs get repeated way too much.)

Kita-he is brand new, and is geared towards an older audience. It is about relationships, and a new woman is focused on every couple of episodes.

This is not a shoujo series. This is based on a "gal-game."

Kare Kano is not a recent series.

(Princess Tutu et al. are mentioned in the mahou shoujo thread I already linked.)

Definitely Full Moon wo Sagashite... It's the best shoujo series I've seen in a long time. Cosmic Baton Girl Comet-san is really cute too. It's a magical girl series.. There's also Princess Tutu which you might or might not like... It's a series I really liked, but some people I know disliked it..

No one has mentioned Tokyo Mew Mew? For shame.

It's like Sailor Moon. And maybe a dash of Captain Planet.

Mahou Shoujo. Already mentioned in the Magical Girls thread I pointed to. Also, licensed but not yet available. So not suitable for the purposes of the person who started the thread I think.
