Athrun and Cagalli - any hope?

For everyone else, try limiting yourselves to what we already know about Athrun's relationships. A bit of speculation about any future works is fine, but it's sort of pointless until we know more about the content of those works.

after watching gundam seed destiny for the second time and then watching the ending of gundam seed destiny special edition

i am convinced that we are to believe in Athrun x Cagari more so than Athrun x Meyrin because we see at the very end of the gundam seed destiny special edition we see that Athrun has on an Orb uniform while Meyrin has on her ZAFT uniform

therfore, it can be speculated that Athrun has chosen to stay behind in Orb to be with Cagari

Honstely Asucaga didn't get any extra snences in GSDSE that shown them together the only thing I saw was extra Kira and Lacus and Shinn Lunamaria sneces which gave more devoplement which is good. Plus Athrun and Cagalli wasn't Main Couple of GSD only GS which was cool. I see him next to Meyrin in two sneces at the end. If he was with Cagalli in second to last snece in the GSDSEIV I would understand. According Gundam Ace rankings Caggalli isn't doing to well far as the Main Characters from gundam seed(ie Athrun,Cagalli, Kira,Lacus. I still like Asucaga like jagapather I can't see it coming back any time soon.

2) In GSD Special Edition III, it revised the original scene so that when Athrun woke up from the sickbay in Archangel, instead of only seeing Kira there, he also found Cagalli standing next to Kira. In the revised scene, Cagalli gave him a smile with her eyes filled up with tears, and Athrun softly looked at her and gave her a warm smile in return and went back to sleep with ease.

Plus Athrun and Cagalli wasn't Main Couple of GSD only GS which was cool.

According to Fukuda in the GSD Roman Album, he only wanted to discuss the 6 main characters in his interview and they are Kira, Lacus, Athrun, Cagalli, Shin and Luna. No one decided who was the main couple of GSD but they are the main six characters in GSD according to Fukuda.

I see him next to Meyrin in two sneces at the end. If he was with Cagalli in second to last snece in the GSDSEIV I would understand.

1st scene = Meyrin was walking BEHIND Athrun. Both Seed 120% and Morosawa said that scene did not mean they were couple.

2nd scene at the end of SE IV = Athrun was walking among Shin, Luna, Meyrin, and Dom Troopers. He was not with Meyrin alone. See picture below. Meyrin was BEHIND Athrun, not next to him. Also, if you carefully watch the ending of SEIV, you will notice the camera was moving from Athrun slowly from left to right. Therefore, Athrun was walking next to Shin and behind them was Meyrin, Dom Trooper and Luna. More, Athrun was wearing NEW ORB admiral uniform with 4 stripes and Meyrin was wearing Zaft uniform.

According Gundam Ace rankings Caggalli isn't doing to well far as the Main Characters from gundam seed(ie Athrun,Cagalli, Kira,Lacus.

Lacus did not do well in Animage monthly ranking too as well as Athrun in Animedia. I believe their rankings were greatly influenced by the recent new animes: Gundam 00, Macross Frontier, Code Geass and etc.

I still like Asucaga like jagapather I can't see it coming back any time soon

I'm quite satisifed with GSD The Edge story which was supported by Fukuda, Morosawa and Sunrise according to Chimaki Kuori (writer/artist) in her Postscript section of her final volume. It was indicated in her Postscript secion in the final volume that she had to consult and discuss the story with the responsible staff during creating the GSD The Edge. At the end, she sincerely thanked to the warmly watch-over by Director Fukuda, Morosawa and the Sunrise responsible staff for the Edge story. The Edge story had indeed illuminated the Asucaga pairing. With this, I don't mind to wait for for the movie a little longer.

Inside the GSD The edge mangas:

1) All those scenes such as (Cagalli asking Meyrin to take care of Athrun, 4 people shopping scene, memorial scene, and Final Plus walking scene) were not in the GSD the Edge manga.

They also changed some scenes for Asucaga:
1) In ep36, instead of Athrun alone, he and Meer both escaped to Meyrin's room. Those TV scenes about Meyrin's taking off her clothes in front of Athrun as well as her grabbing Athrun's leg were not in the Edge manga.

2) In the Crete war, Athrun took a glimpse at Cagalli before his Savior was finished off by Kira's Freedom.

3) In ep45, Cagalli told Athrun and Kira directly that she was counting on them although she could not go with them due to her duty of Orb. After hearing her, Athrun immediately had a flashback of the past where he carressed her hair after she cried and lied down the bed in episode 5. Then, Athrun replied "yes" to Cagalli.

4) In ep45, Athrun suddenly pulled Cagalli over to give her passionate hug while Cagalli tried to give him regular hand-shake as how she did with Lacus and others.

5) It has more details and lines between him and Cagalli when he noticed her risking life at front-end to battle against Shinn's Destiny to protect her Orb.

6) The manga shows no sign or pic about him thinking of Meyrin at all.

7) Before meeting with Meer in a free city, Lacus was accompanied by Kira, injured Athrun and 3 Dom Troopers (no Meyrin at all).

8) In Volume 2, after Meyrin introduced herself to Athrun and guided him to his room, Athrun gave her short reply and immediately closed the door to leave her standing outside his door alone. Athrun then threw his briefcase and sat on his bed and began his thinking and concern about Cagalli, her wedding, and the news about her being kidnapped by Freedom.

9) In episode 39, they extended the conversation between Athrun and Cagalli in the infirmary - about 6 full pages. ^^ To be brief, through their conversation, they understood each other. Cagalli updated Athrun with the current condition of Orb which was being messed up by Seirans and her intention to return back to take care of Orb. She also sadly apologized to Athrun about her not telling him her wedding with Yuuna. Athrun reassured her with smile "You did that to protect Orb, didn't you? So, don't feel sad". At the end of their LONG conversation, Cagalli comforted him and asked Athrun "You better rest now. Please don't blame yourself too much, ok? I am really happy to see you alive and be able to talk to me like this again."

The Edge manga shows solid relationship for Asucaga pairing - they love each other and have the same dream. I did not list all about Asucaga in the list above. For now, I think it's quite enough.

Note: The Edge manga was begun in 2005 and was ended in September 2006. Therefore, it was not created before the TV GSD which had been aired since 2004.

Speaking from I knowledge of only Seed, (I haven't seen destiny yet), I would have to say that there seemed to be some "working chemistry" between them, and am open to the Idea of a relationship between the two... however I also still support Kira/Cagalli (yes, I know they are "related", but I still think that KC relationship seems right too...)

I think this may be a bit off-topic. I'll try to respond you with whatever info I found.

According to both Gundam Seed novel and Gundam Seed Official files, Athrun and Lacus never fell in love so they did not split up in terms of relationship.

Here is the translation from Gundam Seed Vol. 2 novel for episode 20 when Athrun returned to visit Lacus in Plant.

"Both Athrun and Lacus began to know each other since their engagement were arranged by their parents. At that time, Athrun did not have another girl and Lacus had no opposition or doubt for their engagement. However, if you ask Athrun whether or not their feeling to each other was based on love, he will probably say "I don't know"."

In the novels, the writer did not confirm/mention any romantic feelings that Athrun had towards Lacus except his respect and liking her as a friend.

On the other hands, the Gundam Seed OFFICIAL File clearly stated that both Athrun and Lacus had no love/romance relationship to each other.

1) In their Gundam Seed Offiicial File Vol 2:
Their correlation diagram covering from episode 15 to episode 27 had the following interrelational lines:

- No line between Lacus and Athrun.

- A mutual line between Cagalli and Athrun with the words "Have feelings to each other?" with a question mark - Remember, they started to know each other when they were stranded in an unmanned island in episode 24.

2) In their Gundam Seed Offiicial File Vol 3:
Their correlation diagram covering up to episode 40 had the following interrelational lines:

- A mutual line between Lacus and Athrun with the words "Engagement revocation (annulment)"

- A mutual line between Athrun and Cagalli with the words "Have feelings towards each other" with no question mark at this time. That is, their feelings were confirmed.

3) In their Gundam Seed Offiicial File Vol 4 (Final):
Their correlation diagram covering up to episodes 50 had the following interrelational lines:

- No line between Athrun and Lacus.

- Lacus has a line towards Kira with the words "Favor and a love sign".

- A mutual line between Athrun and Cagalli with the words "Lovers".

Also, the final official file for Gundam Seed has the following information:

For Lacus, she finally confessed her love for Kira by giving him the ring.

For Athrun, he finally confessed his love for Cagalli with his mouth.

Athrun and Lacus were disengaged by Patrick Zala in certain episode (I've just forgotten which episode on top of my head) after Kira escaped with the new Gundam Freedom.

Both Athrun and Cagalli confirmed their love with their kiss in the end of episode 48.

In the PS2 Gundam Seed Never Ending Tomorrow, they had the new cutscenes for Asucaga and others once the player completed the story games for both Athrun and Kira.

Someone had posted the scan for the GS Official files at one time but I don't have the link with me. I believe you will be able to find them if you surf the Internet. For now, I used my standard size scanner to scan the correlation diagrams for you. Due to the size of my scanner, I can't scan the entire pages but they are still clear to read.

Hohoho... AthrunxMeyrin is a very nice idea, never thought it

AthrunxCaga, i dont really like this pair. I think Athrun deserve a better woman than Caga. She only think about his country. Although i never hate her, Caga for Athrun is well how i say, doesnt suit nor perfect. About Meyrin well, she love him so much, even risk herlife for him. But have you all even think to pair Athrun and Fllay. i know its ridiculous, but still, i imagine if she can met athrun faster, like how she met Kira, maybe she can change her point of view about coordinator. Bcoz Athrun has a charm that makes him loved by so much woman (Caga, Meyrin, even Luna!). I think if he persuade Fllay with his charm and make Fllay fall in love to him, Fllay would be the most innocent girl in the series.

geez maybe it's the fumiko factor that is happen in GSD since giving meyrin (fumiko) a late push especially you all saw meyrin look at athrun's file & then the shower/help/escape with athrun in phase 36 geez i wonder if anime with fumiko always make a "twist" to the main characters?
