He will no longer be one of US, someone we can relate to. Someone who thinks like us, talks like us, and have nothing but his wits to beat back those more powerful than he... and succeeding.

If he has god powers the story would be ruined. KYON would be ruined.

Everything he did would be a lie. All his triumphs would just be mere games. Nothing he did up to this point would have mattered. He didn't earn any of his victory's at all.

The story is more important, above all. And for the story to work, Kyon needs to be a normal human.

To make my view more clear, it is certainly possible Kyon is a God. The same way it is possible for Haruhi to decapitate Mikuru and split-roast her corpse over a fire in book 10.

But in both cases, it will completely screw with the entire setup of the franchise.

If I had to chose the most likely prospect, other than Haruhi, as God, I would pick Tsuruya. She is obviously not as normal as she claims. She sets on the sidelines, enjoying the action, and egging Haruhi on when things get too slow. She seems to know what is really happening and she is entirely to quick to claim that she, like Kyon, is a normal human.

Not too long ago, this was actually suspected because of the seating arrangement when they just started their first year. Given Kyon's location at the time, his name should either start with 'Ta' or something else...

I only recently came across this theory, but it is quite interesting. It would definitely be a twist ending if it were true. But at this point I feel there is still just as much emphasis that Kyon is an ordinary human. Guess we'll have to wait and see. But I wonder, where would Sasaki fall into it?

And about that bit in the opening, if it is supposed to be a symbol for this theory, does that mean that KyoAni knew about it all the way back in 2006?

Well, I'm new to this part of the forums. So please have mercy on me. I've been lurking here since 2006. But whatever, here goes my first post.

In my first post, I have some things to address:

Spoiler for Haruhi:

- Kyon being a slider or not.

All in all, I believe he is AND isn't. In the alpha timeline he is NOT a slider, as (damn u licensees) in the novel he states that he wants a normal life. There you go, after that slider girl calls him everything settles back to normal. However, after meeting the Anti-dan it feels TOO normal; in fact, nothing weird happens! I think this world is the normal world Kyon will choose later if he wants to go back to normalcy (I think in the end there will be 2 Kyons who will choose; not just one; you're not a slider if you don't have a self in each and every dimension/timeline/whatever).

Also, I bring to light the fact that if nothing is visibly happening in the alpha timeline doesn't mean NOTHING is happening. It may be behind the scenes, all organizations working hard to protect the entity named Kyon, who they all feel is an essential piece of the future (Time Travelers), of auto-evolution (Aliens) and of the world (ESPers). Although no big event is visible (I'm having the goosebumps now; I'm envisioning several scenarios in my head), I think that the organizations both Anti and SOS Dan will team up since a MUCH larger force is at work (the heavens?) whereas in the beta timeline they are arguing among themselves. Although beta is where all the action is, I doubt that it's more important than the alpha. In beta, there is the risk of Haruhi knowing a little too much a little too soon right? Whereas in alpha there is still a chance Haruhi takes it all calmly. Back to beta, if Haruhi knows more than what she needs to, the timeline might implode, forcing slider-chan to save beta Kyon and making him choose whether to save the beta timeline or fix everything in the alpha timeline using knowledge previously gained in the beta timeline. If slider-chan brings alpha Kyon however, it would be to choose between 2 worlds; a war-torn world that is beta, a much more interesting world than peace-ridden alpha, however boring it may be.

So yes, by flitting through dimensions (and speculation) I say Kyon would be a slider. Oh, and it's interesting to note that she calls him Senpai .. would it mean Senpai in the slider business? Or at school (the fleshed out girl in the club recruitment)?

- That pic where 'Asakura' holds a knife near Kyon

I believe it's Tsuruya. I mean, where have you seen Asakura with rounded bangs? If you pay close attention to the series, there's only one girl with rounded bangs and it would be Tsuruya. However, that wouldn't be all.

Recall that the physical data of Asakura was erased. Would that stop the DITE from sending her to help Kyon? I don't think so. All they would have to do was to find a suitable vessel for her data state, and Tsuruya was a suitable candidate.

Imagine this: the Agency's operatives are told to keep an eye on the humanoid interfaces, or aliens for short. Would they pay close attention to a human girl? I didn't think so. They would just dismiss her as unimportant. Some words are at the tip of my tongue; in this case, tips of my fingers. Can't get it out, but it's there.

- Knowledge of Haruhi's family

In light of the recent events, this piece of vital info would be dismissed as trivialities. Knowing Tanigawa Nagaru however, this careless drivel would become a centerpiece in something big. Like how a ponytail was essential in saving the world, this Haruhi cooking for the family will be essential, though for what reason I don't know. I'll do my best though; in speculating nonsense.

Haruhi's mom actually has a terrible sense of taste, measures everything by eye, and when she cooks fish every batch tastes different from its predecessor. This brings us a good fact: Haruhi's mom is absent-minded or somewhere in that wavelength. That wouldn't mean Mikuru though, since she tasted the soup and declared it delicious.

Which brings us to this line in the spoiler:

"Nagato will eat anything that is presented to her. She will eat even if she
doesn't actually need to."

Does that mean Haruhi's mom is a humanoid interface? And a decayed/worn out by time at that? Only time will tell though.

IIRC, the students were being seated in order of their names. Since Kyon was seated in front of Haruhi, that implies that his name comes before her in the alphabetical or Kana order. In Japanese, T comes right after S, which comes right after K, and the vowels are in the order A, I, U, E, O, so Kyon's surname very likely starts with a K or with Sa/Shi/Su.

I remember a line in disappearance said by Kyon when he was looking Haruhi's name in the student register (in the Baka Tsuki translation, before they took it down.) that went something along the line of "Between Senou and Suzuki". I'm not exactly sure if that was the exact wording though.

Based on what I have heard about how Japanese classes seat their students, the initial seating arrangement is made so that the boys and girls fall into boy-girl-boy-girl checkerboard grid. In Kyon's class, the ordering starts at the desk closest to the door and goes, column of desk by column of desk, towards the window column. Also, the girls and boys are split into two groups first and then slotted alphabetically into the available boy/girl slots in the checkerboard arrangement for each gender.

From the description I gave in the above spoiler tag, the surnames of the girls who sit in front of and behind Kyon do not affect Kyon's seating position. It is the boys' surnames before and after Kyon that matter (namely, Sakaki in front and Taniguchi behind him). It is the boys' surnames before and after Kyon that matter (namely, Sakaki in front and Taniguchi behind him). Like I discussed in the space-saving spoiler box above, Kyon's surname can be anything like Sato, Sugiyama, Tachibana, Takahashi, Tanaka, or Tanigawa (as long as his name fits between "Sakaki" and "Taniguchi")

Recall that the physical data of Asakura was erased. Would that stop the DITE from sending her to help Kyon? I don't think so. All they would have to do was to find a suitable vessel for her data state, and Tsuruya was a suitable candidate.

I don't think so. Tsuruya-san's existence as a normal person is almost as important as Kyon's (which is why I'm not even going into the "Kyon as a xxx" argument). Also, any time we've seen some kind of effect done physically to sentients by IDSE interfaces, there has been some kind of physical interaction. Ryoko's attempt to stab Kyon, when conceivably she could have just manipulated the data so that air stopped entering his mouth and nose; Yuki's protections (and adjustments, in Sigh) on Kyon and Mikuru via bite; Yuki's manipulating external events to cause Nakagawa to take a physical blow to the head. Contrast the cricket incident, where it was the other data entity that caused the effect on the Computer Club Pres after he viewed the web page; or the Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody frozen room, where it was the area they were in that was affected, not themselves directly. My reasoning? The IDSE is limited in some ways by the free will of other sentients. They can nudge things around to manipulate other sentients, but can only directly affect them if the sentients freely will it by "allowing" contact. That's probably the major difference between their powers and Haruhi's.

What that boils down to is that, on top of her important status as a normal human, Tsuruya-san doesn't interact with Yuki, so we'd have to have it explained where they did so so that the "injection" of Ryoko could have been done.

Besides, you're missing something, two things, actually. From the picture we've been given, the bottom edge of the bangs are not seen, so we don't know whether they're straight or rounded, only that they curl back towards the forehead. Now a cursory examination of Google Image Search (warning: potentially NSFW depending upon cookie settings) tells us that not only does Tsuruya not have the requisite bangs (she's almost a forehead girl), but Ryoko could, from the right angle.

But to humor the idea for a moment, there is another girl, who has had close physical interactions with Yuki, who also has the curled bangs. And there's no reason to assume that Yuki couldn't have implanted Ryoko into Kyon in the numerous opportunities she's had (as some kind of "tethered spirit" possibly), since there's probably no better way to ensure his safety from her than making it so that she can't continue to exist without him.
