Was it really a new ending or you are only talking about those little clips (and images) they added in the end that showed each of the Himes?

I think it's the same thing as an omake... Images not animated.

In addition to the normal episode 26, there's a Director's Cut version which merely includes a few snippets of the HiME enjoying their lives afterwards at the end before Mai/Natsuki/Mikoto leave campus. Other than that, it's nothing significant.

Shizuru added was also in the normal version I think.
