GamerEscape Preview.

Previews coming from the media tour (embargo lifted).
- Swimming on the surface and underwater is different. Underwater areas aren't continuous like WoW, but more like a "zone within a zone", with bubbles giving a semi-loading screen of sorts.
- Parry and Accuracy gone (thank God).
- Different mount speeds
- The maps are now linked making it easy to navigate.
- FATE's undergo some changes, but not so clear.
- Staggered increases in inventory space depending on server stability.
- /gpose has new additions.

Edit -

DoH/DoL Gear Set Preview. Yes that's a FSH with a fucking TRIDENT.

All in all the changes to the gamer are quite enormous. Looks like we'll have a lot of relearning to do.

A Japanese artist (and FF14 player?), ojiyaff, has been posting daily artworks of each lore recognized Xaela tribe. Apparently it's being done as a countdown to Stormblood.

See if you can spot the lore background for each tribe.

PS. The artist's quite fond of the Au Ra race, judging from earlier releases.

I haven't played FF14 for over a year... and I just found out now a new expansion is around the corner. Time flies...

Game still worth picking up or is it still a glorified World of Warcraft? (aka PvE Raid focused which I don't have time for anymore)

It is my understanding that raids (AKA multi-team queued events), while perhaps the most talked-about post-story activity (not that story is skimped on here), are far from the only such activity. As for details, I believe this Reddit thread might prove a useful starting point.

I would say that FFXIV has always been mostly casual oriented, as the vast majority of contents are easy to do with the automatic party matching feature.

All challenging contents have an easy counterpart, so you'll never get locked out of any story-related content.

That being said, if you aren't interested in collecting items (minions, mounts, triple triad cards, orchestrion rolls) crafting\gathering or exping\equiping multiple jobs, you'll end up with nothing to do pretty quick.

If you want something to get occupied with other than the aforementioned stuff, you can do end game raids, but that's really just an option.

PS: also there's PvP which gets periodically updated if you are into that. In 4.0 it will have its own separate skill system and equip will be irrelevant. You can just queue in it and go.

Eh? But all MMORPG is basically time consuming type of game IMO, so if you don't really like to wasting too much time on a single game MMORPG might not be your type of game?

Final Fantasy XIV Stormblood: Dungeon Boss Theme (Extended)

Different than your usual FF14 boss theme orchestral style but somehow I like it.

Stormblood Preliminary Patch Notes.

Edit - Patch is up for download. 2.56Gb for PC on the initial download.

Edit 2 - Looks like it's a multipart patch download. Restart the launcher after each part.

My friend just told me that apparently Yda and Ysthola are a couple in the past? Wha? when the hell was this touched upon?

I swear people pair up and overthing pairings if someone even THINKS of someone else.

I've downloaded 6.1 GB so far, I wonder what the total amount will be in the end.

Red Flag

Not too long ago, I ran across the following comment on a YouTube video related to one Gaius Van Baelsar:

Quote:
i swear , was it not for the ascian , i would have served under that guy with no question ask
Another commenter thought him the best antagonist in the game because he was most understandable of the lot. It got me pondering: how much do players have to learn ingame (the Encyclopaedia Eorzea is likely quite detailed) about the Garlean Empire beyond their role as designated OPFOR? From that question, and a comment on an article concerning the upcoming CoD iteration, it occurred to me that a standalone RPG applying the conceit of Tyranny to this setting could be very interesting as an exercise in world-building...

Server's are still in an MSQ clusterfuck. Honestly they should just either put a queue for the instance or let it be skippable until they have a solution.

More than 36 hours after EA and a crapton of people (like me) are still stack at the first solo instance. This is slowly becoming a mess of epic proportions.

So SE finally announces that the EA woes was compounded by an expanded DDOS attack.

Wow, the final battle theme of bloodstorm is so powerful and epic.

And yeah, the last remnant that left by a certain being from HW is finally gone for good. No more milking.

I must say the work they've done for this new expansion is really impressive.

The maps, the dungeon, the story, they all feel like a noticeable step up in quality. The mechanics are fun and creative but not too strange that you can't figure them out on the fly or after one fail.

The last battle seems to me noticeable harder than the Heavensward one especially considering people are doing it with less than ilvl290.

My guess is that the new end game equip will be ilvl340.
