I've been looking at this anime/manga(which is better.. the anime or the manga. what should I start with?).

I'm really looking for cool awesome sword wielding characters, in an entertaining setting. I laughed so much at animes like samurai champloo. I like the mix between humor and serious... and just cool characters doing random stuff.

Do you think gintama manga/anime, would be for me?

i don't read the manga regularly , though sometimes i read it in Shounen Jump when my brother buys it for me when he comes back home.

i personally think the anime is far better. The anime staff are talented, and seiyuus are doing good job, so the anime is very attractive , and especially battle scenes are expressed very vividly.

So i recommend the anime for you.

And i agree that Gintama is attractive because it has both humor and seriousness.
i sometimes feel i don't like the indecent jokes, but after feeling that, Gintama has very seriousness , that is a kind of philosophy, and i am astonished everytime and moved . The balance is one reason i am attracted to Gintama.

well, the manga is also awesome because Sorachi's style of writing really interesting XD (and why nobody ever try to sue him for all his dirty jokes at Gintama )

the anime just make it better with the quality (and they not sensor all those dirty jokes )

Gintama level of whackiness will never cease to amaze me till now (those serious arc is good too but I'm glad that even in serious arc Sorachi still give some stupid situation to make us laugh. the beginning of kyuubei arc start with Kondo's omiai with a gorilla, Itou's arc happen because stupid curse at Hijikata's sword, Urashima tarou's arc (this arc hasn't subbed yet) started with Kagura's bullying turtle, etc )

@corn: if you want equal mix between humor and serious I doubt you get it from Gintama since Gintama more to comedies. Well, every episode also have a meaning. From stupid till good meaning for the watcher/reader

I dont mind funny animes. I loved FLCL and full metal panic for example.

Gintama manga to anime conversion has been pretty good . Moving pictures beat still pictures any day . Also as anime and manga are almost running neck to neck I too would suggest you to watch the anime first.

Also a word of caution on a personal front episodes 02-15 do get a little boring. But your Patience will be rewarded with and after episode 18 . I really enjoyed this series immensely, one of better series I have watched in a long time. Hope its the same for you

I can safely say you'll enjoy it very much, both the funny and the serious parts (although some jokes are exaggerated), I have only read one manga chapter so I can't really say much about that...
