Episode 11:
Can anyone agree that Chouko Ooki must die on the last episode? I mean, she tore Reia's storybook in front of Kureha, and she also killed Lulu too!

For some reason I'm thinking Chouko will survive just to subvert expectations, the invisible storm is done for though.

I know this anime gets a lot of shit, but I truly love it. From the over-the-top symbolism to the convoluted plot to the weird characters. It's just so charming and make me sit at the edge of my chair each episode ending.

Have to wonder if Ginko and Kureha will jointly become the new Kumaria since this episode implies she no longer exists.

Honestly, and I hate to judge other people's opinions on art, I can't help but feel that the people who dropped this show after only a few episodes, and were quick to label it garbage, were either motivated by extreme prejudice against sexual content (nevermind that it had far less violence than 90% of anime) or were simply vocalizing their emotional reaction to the premise (or just talking out of their asses).

I just completely reject the notion that, on a critical level, Yuri Kuma Arashi could be described as a bad show. In what way?

The first 3 episodes were rambling, boring, and completely style over substance. This show had a very weak beginning , Penguin Drum had a very weak ending. Perhaps next time he will manage to get both right.

I loved the first episodes, as confusing as they were.

A more accurate description would probably be "ritualistic".

Everything Ikuhara directs is usually predicated on a foundation of repetitive ceremony which serves to establish the symbolic framework of the piece and spell out the virtues and vices of whatever surreal universe his parable is taking place in. Without this structure, Ikuhara's style of cultural critique via short-hand visual metaphor becomes impossible.

Yes, this was plied on thick in the first few episodes of Yurikuma, but with only 1 cour to work with, Ikuhara had to frontload all that universal architecture.

In short, don't blame Ikuhara, blame the production company that only approved 12 episodes.

Just saw the final episode. It was a satisfying ending. No spoilers just yet, watch it yourself. I'm glad I gave this show a chance and didn't let the first few episodes turn me off. I would of kicked myself for missing it. This was my first Ikuhara show and I see where he gets his positive hype from.

Satisfying finale.

Yuri approved! Glad to see that it ended happily. Hell, we even got a cameo of Sumika.

That was a nice, sweet show. But can't say that it left any impression on me. In a few seasons I probably won't remember much from it.

Finished it. I guess I can say I find the series as a whole to be quite good. Quite slow and annoying at times but overall it was still a good watch. Probably won't re-watch though.

Was Sumika Kumaria all along? Or did Kumaria take on the form of Sumika, because this was the form most meaningful to Kureha?

I actually thought that it would end with Kureha and Ginko shot and killed, but apparently not.

Also Chouko survived, and is now building her Orwellian dystopia within the school.

Finally was Ikuhara taking pot shots at Japanese social norms throughout the episode?

A very nice ending Kureha seems like the only sane one in that whole city

Sure YKA would have benefited by having more character specific episodes to maximize our investment in the cast - but what we got was incredibly fun, intelligent, sincere and lovely. What you'd hope from Ikuhara lite.

39, 24 and now 12. Next he'll create a masterstroke 5 minute (I hope not) anime!

A great ending. The earlier episodes just had too many repeating motifs and scenes that probably turned a lot of people off (especially since nothing made sense). I totally did not expect Kumaria = Sumika, but it does tie Sumika into the overall narrative a lot more. Overall the art, music, and direction were incredibly well done and helped carry the show through the earlier episodes. 8/10.

Well for what i see Sumika is not the real Lady Kumaria. Why Sumika is showed to be Lady kumaria because Kureha depicted it to be like that. Its thanks to Sumika's love that Kureha understands the love for Ginko (during the yuri trial in last episode). So when the Lady Kumaria came down in front Kureha, what process in Kureha's mind the first thing she thought or the first person she see ABOUT THE LADY OF LOVE is of course Sumika.
