Actually, her shikai, as its name suggests, is a three-stage attack.
First stage is an instinct-driven strike by the furball half of her shikai.
Second stage is Yachiru's own attack.
Third stage is the oni-looking half's delayed attack.

It doesn't extend her range. It simply ensures that every attack has a bigger chance of hitting her target.

Could be that she's stronger than Kenpachi or on par, but has been keep low to keep him happy. As she said, she probably didn't show her powers so that Kenpachi could enjoy himself fighting.

That's a pretty sweet shikai. Simple but effective. Nice to see Yachiru kick some ass. Too bad she ended up fighting such a lame opponent.

Kubo and his deus ex machinas. Whenever he invents/explains somone's shikai, it's a direct counter to their opponent

but it's pretty nice to finally Yachiru getting the screen time she deserved

So.... she released her Shikai before saying the name? Does she have Bankai? Do the "rules" even apply at this stage, given she's fighting the Silence?

Plus, her Shikai is just a fancy version of "she has fast reflexes and a sword that's longer than it looks"

Yachiru has a pretty cool shikai it's not flashy or anything but it gets the job done. I just hope Kenpachi doesn't interfere in this fight.

It just occurred to me. Yachiru might be more of a prodigy than Hitsugaya. I'm looking forward to seeing how this one ends. And I want to know why her shikai looks like it takes on the appearance of a hollow. What's truly interesting to me is how happy she looks right now. And it's interesting because I'm betting this will lead to another power-up for her. Because we know Yachiru has the capacity to act her age in the sense that she can easily get upset/angry/irritated. So when that happens, I'm wondering if she'll turn into the second coming of the Yachiru she's been named after.

PS: Just wanted to throw out there one other possibility for why she didn't have to say a shikai release command to use her zanpakuto's technique (other than having learned bankai). She could be among one of the few shinigami to have a permanent released type zanpakuto. And judging from the fact that her zanpakuto's appearance didn't seem to change, I think it could be a plausible possibility.

I'm still holding out hope that Yachiru is actually a manifestation of Kenpachi's Zanpakto, similar to the old man who was Ichigo's Zangetsu. If she is actually his sword's manifestation, then it would go a long way towards showing how obscenely powerful Kenpachi will be once he does unlock Bankai.

Byakuya didn't do a damn thing in that fight IIRC
he just showed up and surprised Rukia's enemy.
They just talked, then Rukia went bankai and finished the fight. lol
