He's over, and he knows it. The midterms sealed his doom as the leader of the party - just a question of how many of them he's able to take down with him. The main goal right now is to distract as much attention as possible from his impending legal apocalypse while trying to figure out a way to escape to a country with no extradition treaty.

The Constitution, thus the law, is only valid when it serves my interests.

I hear your dictator delusions loud and clear you clown.

He’s desperate. The law is hounding him at all turns and he needs the protection of the presidency to make them go away instead of trying to prove his innocence like a normal person would. He feels threatened by DeSantis who could reasonably win because DeSantis hasn’t pissed off the moderate voters like Trump has. MAGA could get Trump the nomination but without moderates he will fail to win presidency.

I am not so sure about that, six years ago many republicans voted for him because they expected some fresh air into politics. Nowadays trump stench cant be coated with the best of propaganda *waves@elon musk* so imo many republicans would vote in the primaries for a safer bet *coff*deSantis*coff* of hard core conservatism.

And those were the moderate votes. The people who look beyond party to find that “fresh air of politics”. Trump has them scared now about the future if he is re-elected. Republicans would do well to distance themselves from him. If he gets the nomination then they will likely lose far more than just a few seats in congress.

Unlike last time now they have a "Trump" option in DeSantis that isn't an unrepentant criminal.

It's certainly morally and ethically sketchy, but a legal loophole as long as the transport is "voluntary."

How voluntary it actually was is open to debate, *cough*argument*cough*, but isn't technically illegal under those rules.

Did he replace his father as main asset

Wasn't it funny that there was finally outrage at "human trafficking" when the people were being sent to a rich white neighborhood.

Disturbing that the Georgia runoff was as close as it was. If only the GOP thought to run a candidate that wasn’t so… stupid they would’ve won easily. This is what happens when you let parties, and former presidents… decide politics

How many times must the Republicans burn their fingers on the hot stove before they finally stop touching it? The world may never know....

How come they didn't "win easily" in 2020 when they had two incumbent Senators lose?

GA is a swing state. Partisanship is so locked in now that the quality of the candidates - especially in an inelastic electorate like Georgia - matters maybe 2-3%. Which is the exact margin between Warnock's win and a toss-up.

GA and AZ will probably stay pretty blue going forward, too many transplants changed the electorate there.

As much as anything it's the Republicans kissing off the suburban vote with Trumpism. As somebody said on twitter a couple of weeks ago, the essence of the issue comes down to "suburbanites don't like weird shit".

Despite McCarthy practically rolling over for the Hard Right and giving them practically whatever they want they still won't vote for him. Three times now. Repubs just barely won a majority in the house and they can't even get started. How pitiful.

For decades now the repubs have searched power "no matter the cost". They thought they could control the crazies aka trumpists but they were wrong and finally it is time to pay. This will go down in the history books as the most disfunctional house of representatives in history. This will be a three ring circus where the clowns are on fire, literally.

In a year no one will remember that it took a couple extra days to pick a speaker of the House just as no one remembers that two years ago both the House and Senate were locked up in a partisan impeachment attempt.

But at least this time isn't during the outbreak of a pandemic.

It's only the first time a second Speaker Ballot was needed in the last 100 years. Nothing of note surely.
