Yes your right but aren't these just side stories?
I wouldn't call Nekomonogatari a side story since it's the golden week prequel that fills in the gap between Kizu and Bake. Remember you see flashes of a cat like Tsubasa in the first ep of Bake. Also Tsubasa knows Meme.

I finally caught up with this series. I suppose more content specific comments are supposed to go in the episode threads now, though. Ah, well.

On the 'realistic'/'symbolic' footage used occasionally. I agree that it offput me on some occasions. However, I do feel that some of the effect those scenes created could not have been done with 'normal' animation.

In the first place, this supposed 'shaft-style' animation is usually used in the exposition/backstory parts of the narration: something that, within the narrative, exists solely in a mental sense for the characters. Second, this backstory often involves a somewhat dark or traumatic aspect of human experience--the ugly parts of human nature. I think the combination of 'abstract' symbolism for mental components combined with 'flawed, imperfect' realistic footage to express human smallness or ugliness makes for a great way to communicate what they want to. It's not annoying or pretentious at all--it's just sometimes poorly executed.

Anyway, I'm not sure what kind of actual discussion goes on in this thread anymore (or has been going on for I suppose the last ~30 pages), so back to lurking for now.

Doesn't look like it. Looks like Nishio is talking about the Bakemonogatari DVD and the anime itself.

Episode 10: Nadeko Snake - Part Two (なでこスネイク 其ノ貮)

Storyboard: Aoki Ei (あおきえい)
Episode Director: Oonuma Shin (大沼心)
Animation Director: Unspecific
Another Oonuma Shin's episode. I guess Nadeko's OP will be done by him as well. The most exciting thing here is Aoki Ei's (Kara no Kyoukai episode 1, Ga-Rei director) participation.

Whats Bakemonogatari really about?

I entered this forum because I search so much information about Bakemonogatari. I've read all the descriptions and all, about it being about a boy who catches a girl in some stairs and she turns out to be a vampire and they solve mysteries together or something. Whats it really about, dont just give me a description from a website, ive read just about all of them, i would like some one to tell me what its about so far from watching it. Actually I ,myself a bit lost. What does this story indeed about?!!LOVE? TRUST?!

It's about a dude who goes around dealing with oddities (all sorts of spiritual beings, ghosts, demons, "gods" etc...) and his relations with the people affected by them.

You means it just simply discuss the human nature?! The evil and the good. Yepp. This is the beauty of this anime. You will keep finding something new while watching it again and again.

SHAFT's style. Either you love it or you hate it, I guess.

I really have no idea what you're talking about. Every single episode features good animation and art quality, with many episodes featuring extremely impressive animation quality.

Apparently they couldn't finish the episode in time due to staff problems.

The short answer is, "yes, its about all those things." vampires, mysteries, monsters, love, trust, and flirty verbal dialog dueling.

The base story thread is a story of a young man who helps a girl get past her obstacles, she falls in love with him, and they're both emotionally dysfunctional so there are many amusing moments. Then these other people appear who have problems that need solving - each one clarifying just what kind of person the young man is.

Has SHAFT said anything about adding any scenes to the bluray/dvd releases? Especially those scenes which say "Cut X", kinda hoping for some additional scenes to Hitagi Crab, the least they can do is fix the ending part of Ep 2 since that was clearly rushed due to broadcast.

SHAFT always keep quiet about BD/DVD fixes (even when they decided to extend one episode of Maria Holic to 29 minutes, they're not even bother updating the Run Time description), so we won't know anything until the release. Though, Oshima Miku said back when episode 2 aired that the episode can't fit into the broadcasting block, so they have to rearrange the ending a bit.

But looking at their anime schedule, I won't expect anything.

On a topic of episode 10, someone who claims to "know an insider info" posted on 2ch that:
- Several tens cuts were removed in the broadcasted version.
- Slideshow is a result of those cuts were not finished in time.
- Many scenes only use half of the ordered in-between frames.
- Most of "Shaft being Shaft" is going to be fixed.
- The DVD/BD version will restore all the unfinished part.
