Whered K-Lite K++ go?

Anyone know what happened to the K-Lite K++ site? It appears as though it were shut down..perhaps Kazaa forced it to close? Or something to do with the RIAA and all the bizness thats floating around w/ them?

The site's been dissapearing on and off these past few months due to the RIAA chasing them like blood hounds...if you're lucky you can get hold of the K++ site on some old backlog Search Engines or through links...though personally it's a matter of luck...

I'm pretty sure Kazaa Lite has been shut down.

Sharman Networks (The people who make Kazaa) forced them to shut down.

Obviously they wouldn't like a program that cuts out all their ads and spyware.

K++ will still work just fine. But they have officially stoped development on it, so there won't be any new versions and the site is gone.

The K++ program still works fine though...I'm using it now...lol
I'm not sure they can shut it down as long as one person is still using it...

The program is just a hack of the regular Kazaa, so it will work as long as the old versions of Kazaa do.

too bad napster wasn't like kazaa. if it had been like kazaa and also included support for videos, i would still be using it. as long as people use the software kazaa will never end. the only way to end it is to block kazaa's port somehow, but then people would just redirect it. the big companies are fighting a useless battle.

Hmm...I am not sure about this (coz I don't use kazaa), but doesn't kazaa connect to large server that keeps track of users and so on? if yes then all they need is to shut down that server/network.

P.S. Again I am not sure about this

I still have the latest version of K++ and Kazaa lite somwhere on my backupdisks.

The big advantage of this program is that YOU are the server and not a client who depends on the hosts of a big spying company such as Kazaa..

Just like Emule. it's a client, without the servers (which are hard to find anyway) it's useless.

Since millions of users still have a copy of Kazaa K++ or similair it can't be wiped out, because every user is a server,

even IF Kazaa changes their software so that there's no backward compatebility towards K++ users then the K++ users will become an independed network of K++ users. along with the Lite's ofcourse.

and ofcourse when you don't have the program and can't find it there's always somebody who gives you a copy ...

The good part is,

The good files and good stuff always comes from K++ or Lite users..

And the RIAA is fighting a useless war they can't eliminate 15 million concurrent servers all over the world.. YAY for capitalism..!!

AFAIK, the FastTrack network is decentralized. I think it does a IP lookup for supernodes, but other than that...

Kazaa is technically decentralised, but in reality because it's all locked-up, "decentralised" is meaningless.

Kazaa contacts a central server to get the names of hubs. If that central server goes down, maybe the current programs would keep working, but no newly download clients would work. In other words, Kazaa is going to fail as soon as they go bankrupt or lose a court battle.

Everyone should be switching to an open-network client such as eMule or Shareaza as soon as possible.

Or better yet DirectConnect DC can't be shutdown since anyone can host a hub...also I like idea that there are theme hubs like mp3/anime/divx and so on

Yeah, Direct Connect is good, too, although it's slightly elitist.

the k-lite++ project was dropped for some reason which means no newer versions of k-lite++ will be released but of course the program still works as long as you have it so better keep a back up copy also there are rumors that another group picked up the k-lite sourse code and will continue the work but i duno..

It was dropped because the creator was of the opinion that Kazaa is total crap, and didn't want people to use such a sucky network anymore. I'm not kidding.

What do you want, besides BitTorrent, eDonkey, and Shareaza's Gnutella2? Don't be greedy.
