Sharman Networks (The people who make Kazaa) forced them to shut down.
Obviously they wouldn't like a program that cuts out all their ads and spyware. K++ will still work just fine. But they have officially stoped development on it, so there won't be any new versions and the site is gone. |

too bad napster wasn't like kazaa. if it had been like kazaa and also included support for videos, i would still be using it. as long as people use the software kazaa will never end. the only way to end it is to block kazaa's port somehow, but then people would just redirect it. the big companies are fighting a useless battle.

Hmm...I am not sure about this (coz I don't use kazaa), but doesn't kazaa connect to large server that keeps track of users and so on? if yes then all they need is to shut down that server/network.
P.S. Again I am not sure about this |

I still have the latest version of K++ and Kazaa lite somwhere on my backupdisks.
The big advantage of this program is that YOU are the server and not a client who depends on the hosts of a big spying company such as Kazaa.. Just like Emule. it's a client, without the servers (which are hard to find anyway) it's useless. Since millions of users still have a copy of Kazaa K++ or similair it can't be wiped out, because every user is a server, even IF Kazaa changes their software so that there's no backward compatebility towards K++ users then the K++ users will become an independed network of K++ users. along with the Lite's ofcourse. and ofcourse when you don't have the program and can't find it there's always somebody who gives you a copy ... The good part is, The good files and good stuff always comes from K++ or Lite users.. And the RIAA is fighting a useless war they can't eliminate 15 million concurrent servers all over the world.. YAY for capitalism..!! |

Kazaa is technically decentralised, but in reality because it's all locked-up, "decentralised" is meaningless.
Kazaa contacts a central server to get the names of hubs. If that central server goes down, maybe the current programs would keep working, but no newly download clients would work. In other words, Kazaa is going to fail as soon as they go bankrupt or lose a court battle. Everyone should be switching to an open-network client such as eMule or Shareaza as soon as possible.

the k-lite++ project was dropped for some reason which means no newer versions of k-lite++ will be released but of course the program still works as long as you have it so better keep a back up copy also there are rumors that another group picked up the k-lite sourse code and will continue the work but i duno..
