I've begun rereading Book 2 and I caught something I thought was odd last time but overlooked: The scene in Chapter 5 after they have the fight and he goes to the clubroom to make up:

Haruhi was in the clubroom, connecting the video camera to the computer; she seemed to be working on something. She looked up in shock when I suddenly opened the door. Was that a curry bun she was holding in her left hand?

She frantically threw the bun away, then put her hand behind her hair... I think. At this point her hair opened up. I don't know why she did that, as if she was trying to quickly untie the hair that she had tied up behind her head. I didn't notice it too carefully, since I could think about that later. I then said what I needed to be say to her,

I'm assuming her hair was tied into a ponytail but the reaction seems strange, why would he (The author) throw in a detail like this?

To show us that she wears it in private, but is too embarrassed to show it to Kyon.

Kaisos is absolutely right. As by the end of book 1 we know Haruhi knows that Kyon is ponytail moe. She wears it in private in a way to confirm his affections in a way without actually confirming his affections . Kyon is just sneaking some odd bits of info for us to notice, after all in this series NOTHING is just filler.

I'd have to say that most of Kyon's descriptions of Mikuru have quite a bit of filler to them.

I don't know, alot of times it's just exaggeration, but if you look at it in face value, though Kyon finds Mikuru very attractive, all his praise seems very dare I say, fake. And at that point we wonder what are his true thoughts, does he really like her to such an extreme or does he find that he needs to support her?

and find myself agreeing with this.

I don't remember where but, at one point Kyon had to remind himself that he fancied Mikuru.

I've never got that impression. I think it had more to do with the fight they had over Haruhi abusing Mikuru. It really did upset.

I think it was more idle musing on her part (Would Kyon be more manageable if I wore a ponytail?).

Talking about Haruhi's specific motivation regarding the pony tail in the 2nd novel.

I thought it was more situational, than something she made a habit of doing.

I have just read " Charmed at first Sight" and it was a very interesting story...well towards the end that it.

So the real reason why Nagato caused that accident to Nakagawa was because she wanted him to lose his powers of seeing through the Integrated Data Sentient Entity and seeing their powers?
It made me a bit confused...so Nakagawa had powers that could let him see Yuki's aura and when he meant it, he could literally see her aura, despite the fact that she is an alien.
Now, Nakagawa is just a regular human with no powers that could see through the Integrated Data Sentient Entity. So his case is similar to the Computer Club President, when he became a camel cricket in closed space.

Overall it was a good story, just a bit confusing at the end.

The Computer Club president didn't become a camel cricket... he got EATEN by the camel cricket.

Nakagawa is what I would term a "half-esper", someone with special paranormal abilites, but not like those possessed by "true espers" like Koizumi and Sonou Mori.

It wasn't. However, the author appears to use a given naming convention for characters. Characters that are "special" in some way are given full names, while characters that are not are usually only given one name, a nickname, or a title.

In the case of Nakagawa, his single name foreshadowed the loss of his powers. Maybe the same will happen to Sasaki?

There are exceptions, to be sure, (Miyoko Yoshimura) but why else would Mori have been given a full name when Arakawa was not?

In addition, Koizumi identifies himself and Mori as part of the "inner sanctum", and makes no reference to the Tamaru brothers and Arakawa at that point.

I think we can be pretty certain that she's an esper.
