According to the radio (somewhere before the 15 minute mark), Spoiler:
Also, apparently the radio says that Mari couldn't do the anime because she was too busy, so she recommended the new writer. Though I think I missed the part where he said it in the radio, so I can't give a time stamp.

Episode 1:
Well that was actually interesting, better than I had expected. We got the Selector battle, basic fighting mechanics for it, and they didn't waste much time to show what Homura and her LRIG is capable of. I kinda feel bad for Homura at school though, she's like a bit of a loner as being the new kid around. In the meantime, there are other characters so I hope we learn more about them. I kinda like the theme songs they used and the OST during the selector battle.

I'm glad we're having a new cast, since the first wixoss reasons really kind of wrapped things up with a clear end to things.
Is this card game actually marketed to girls and is popular with them in sales irl, or is it just a regular waifu card game with an anime with female characters? So instead of wishes, and the girls mostly doing partaking it of their own choices, it sounds like forcing them to battle.

Very interesting first episode.
What I Like 1. I remember the original WIXOSS being literally darker, as in darker visually. I remember it having a lot of evening/night scenes. So it's a neat contrast for Lostorage's first episode to go heavily for bright, almost picturesque daylight scenes. The fact it does so even though the situation is arguably darker now than before is pretty interesting, and makes for an unusual contrast. 2. It subverted how anime typically handles the transfer student. The transfer student typically creates lots of excitement, especially early-on. S/he also tends to be very popular early on. It's kinda neat that Lostorage goes in the opposite direction here. It's an amusing change, especially given how our female lead is named Homura, of all names. 3. The character designs are excellent. Especially Homura's LRIG. Homura's LRIG looks and sounds really cool. The setting also looks pretty nice and is presented well. 4. I love the idea of two old friends both becoming Selectors, both thinking about the other one, both with their LRIGs based on their memories of the other one... and them eventually meeting through WIXOSS, ideally after both have gained a lot of experience and strength at the game. This setup is loaded with excellent potential. 5. Male Selectors! Nice change. Although I hope the next male Selector we meet will seem less scummy. 6. I'm pretty sure Piriluk showed up in the ED briefly. Would be neat to see her again later. I'm fine with the all-new cast, but light connections between the original WIXOSS cast and the new cast could be fun. What I Don't Like 1. The five memory coins are an interesting new dynamic, but I don't like how there's now nothing at all to be gained from Selector battles other than mere survival and the preservation of your memories. The wish dynamic of the original WIXOSS added an awful lot, and it's sad to see that go. Also... 2. While it might be nice to see Piriluk again, her presence in the ED raises some possible unfortunate implications. Given the removal of the wish dynamic, and given the introduction of stricter time limits between battles, it could be argued that Selectors have it worse now than before. It makes me wonder if Ruuko actually caused more harm than good, which is a somewhat sad thought, especially after recently watching Selector-Destructed WIXOSS. On the whole, a very good Episode 1, and I'm looking forward to more!

A fine start, even if the development in the first episode was
"I wanted to make friends, so I decided to buy some trading cards, but now I've been forced to risk my life... for nothing" The question is why, but I'm sure they aren't going to explain that in the first episode. Compared to Tama and Ruu, Suzuko is a lot more introverted and her Lrig is robotic right now, so it's hard to really find them attractive characters at the moment. I thought Kiyoi was only going to be like a cameo, but from her position in the OP, she actually might have a bigger role? Also, that host-ish guy didn't show off his Lrig, but I guess it would be that Miko?

So...the Selector battles continue, but now in a different format.
From what I noticed, it's still in the same universe as the previous WIXOSS, there were enough hints in the episode to support that. I assume who/whatever is behind the new system is a lot darker than the main antagonist back in the first two seasons

Wow, I like the new system. It's even more punishing here than it was before. Interesting that LRIGs are made from your memories. Why was that guy's LRIG so soft compared to him though? Did he change after beating up a bunch of newbies?
I like that homura is a high schooler and it emphasizes the bond between her and chinatsu(?). Higher chances of Yuri baiting. Good episode. I'm surprised they laid out a lot of suffering in the first episode already. Does it get more depressing from here or more happy? I expect the former though. Oh yea and as triple_r says, the character designs are excellent. |

Since this series is most likely in the universe taking place after Spread, I may as well ask it here.
Spoiler for Spread and Destructed ending:

I actually prefer the contrasting dynamic of the selector and LRIG to a pair who is more or less the same. Ruuko and Tama were both too much of hyperactive battle fanatics, so they could not play off each other well. It is one reason I preferred Spread to Infected. Lostorage gives us the opportunity for contrasting personalities between the selector and LRIG, and it gives us an additional opportunity to contrast the idealize version of the friends from their respective memories--as reflected in their LRIGs--with what they have now become. I think Kiyoi will serve as a supporting role and information on the true nature of selector battles. It would really cool when she debuts in Lostorage her first line is "Welcome, Selector". Kiyoi's appearance hasn't changed much except that she is taller.
