Virtual Reality

Japanese Sex Toy Company Explores Possibilities of Virtual Reality:

"Tenga, a Japanese manufacturer of masturbation aids, is breaking into a new
frontier: virtual reality. Using a head-mounted display and headphones, it's
conducting experiments with the SR (Substitutional Reality) System, which
substitutes live footage and reality with pre-recorded footage.

A recent example involved adult video actress Love Saotome, who posed in front of
a web journalist wearing the head-mounted display. She eventually began
undressing, touched the journalist on his shoulder, and offered him one of Tenga's
sex toys. Before things got too steamy, though, Tenga's director, Takashi Matsūra,
appeared to inform him that due to mechanical problems, the experiment was over.
It was then that the journalist found out, to some dismay, that he hadn't actually
been staring at Saotome at all, but at Matsūra! He had gestured and touched the
journalist's shoulder to provide the sense of a human presence, and presumably
also to troll him."

Getting Punched In Virtual Reality Will Soon Feel Real:

"Punching opponents in virtual reality is as awesome as it sounds, but
soon it’ll also be a double-edged sword. Meet Impacto, an armband
that re-creates the experience of actually being punched–without the
pain, of course.

Virtual reality accessories have a tendency to be bulky, uncomfortable
contraptions that are often a hassle to wear. That’s why researchers at
the Human-Computer Interaction lab (HCI) at the Hasso Plattner
Institute in Germany created a prototype that’s less-invasive and
relatively comfortable to wear.

Combining haptic feedback–taps and vibrations on your skin–with
electrical muscle stimulation, the armband simulates the effects of
impact force by thrusting the user’s arm in a direction that’s
convincing."

FaceRig Live2D Module “Become an Anime Girl!”:

"The team behind face manipulation program FaceRig have collaborated
with Live2D to deliver the “FaceRig Live2D module”, a program that
allows talented artists to create their own 2D models and animate them
as if they were 3D while also letting them “become” the model, sure to
prove useful for professional and fan-based productions alike, to say
nothing of all the creepy chaos it threatens to unleash."

Playing the world’s first VR board game:

"After trying out VR porn for the first time, the obvious next port of call
was the other barb of the early-adopter pincer attack: VR games. At
MWC in Barcelona there were myriad virtual reality gaming demos, from
on-rails shooting games to full VR-and-HOTAS Elite: Dangerous setups
and wacky HTC Vive stuff. But there was one game that really intrigued
me, way out in the hinterlands of Hall 7: Lost Cities VR, the world's first
VR board game."

Seeing as the date's closing in, I figured the up and coming SAO VR game should have some light shed on it. IBM is basically testing out new tech on a VR game themed after sword art online, with 200 testers starting in 17 days.

SAO VR isn't a game, it is a simulation thing, where people can interact with NPC if I understand correctly.
It is bascially a PR project to market IBM's current tech.

For people who are interrested in VR HMD:
PC based
Oculus Rift
Vive
OSVR

Console only
Playstation VR

If you are considering to get one of these HMD and low on cash, OSVR or PSVR are to ones to look for.

VR Porn Event Ends Prematurely:

"A colossal turn-out for Akihabara’s first ever “Adult VR Fest 01” has
actually caused the event to end prematurely due to fears of there
being mass hysteria from people desperately wanting to see the latest
in lonely self-stimulation technology.

According to a Japanese reporter, the 20 closest individuals “in line”
were allowed access inside before the venue was forcibly shut down
due to the overpowering crowds gathered in anticipation, with the
lucky attendees apparently expressing enthusiastic approval of the
“revolutionary” VR technology.

The few images that could be acquired of the event’s gadgets (and the
chaotic queue outside):"

Porn will lunch it and games will hold it.

Much like Internet today works.

The real question is how many people will log in and never log out?

^ You can't help but feel tired, VR is reportedly a mentally exhausting environment. IIRC three hours are enough to cause headaches, while by comparison normal gamers can last for over 35 hours without sleep.

WHAT?
Plenty of people get headaches from gaming all day. Plenty of people get headaches from gaming for an hour. What is your definition of "normal gamers" when you think such a person should be able to game non stop for 35 hours? How the hell is that suppose to be "normal"?

Korean StarCraft players are not the baseline for normal.

I'm not talking about everyday or weekly practices, but something done once in a while, like a full raid party spending half a day preparing and raiding and the other half distributing and selling loot (personally done that one).

Forgive the lack of a better characterization, by normal, I referred to gamers who do not play VR games. Plus, I'm not talking about guinness records of 135 hours on black ops, but people who occasionally decide to have extremely long sittings of playing games. As far as VR is concerned, 3 hours is the most I've heard or read about. Granted, VR is still a new thing, but until I receive different news or experience it for myself, that is my take on the matter.

Oculus Is Developing a New Way to Feel Things in
Virtual Reality:

"As virtual reality creeps on into inevitability, both in terms of video
games and hanging out in virtual workspaces, the question remains: Will
you ever be able to feel anything? Oculus and its parent company,
Facebook, are working on a potential add-on to the virtual experience
designed specifically for that purpose."

~35 hour sessions on MMORPGs aren't that crazy, basically there's a lot of repetitive tasks that allow you to turn most of your brain off every now and then, and the barrier is low to just take your hands off the keyboard, turn your head around and relax for a moment in your home environment.

In VR it's a bit more troublesome to take off your headset and put it back on, not to mention what it'll be like when there's some kind of heptic or neural feedback interface. Maybe it's something one can get used to, but at least from what little VR games I played, the exhaustion and urge to log out comes pretty fast.

Is VR the Future of Anime?:

"The software has been available online through Steam for a while now, but ELIZA’s
interview with Kenji Ishimaru, who is developing the visuals for the project at Polygon,
provided quite a bit of interesting insight as to what the characteristics and aims of the
project are—as well as the significance of new forms of media consumption in the coming
years."
