I really liked it. Nothing really happened, yet I didn't see the time fly. The two girls have good chemistry, and it's extremely important in a slice of life show like this one. I wonder if it'll just be the two of them for the whole series or if they'll find other survivors. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series either way.

Liked the first episode so that I'm in for the whole series. Funny that the character animation at times seemed to come dangerously close to using Wide Faces™.

So this the pleasant surprise of the season and maybe the year.

Simple yet evocative. The essence of survival and relishing any positive moment/feeling, no matter how fleeting it is. Really makes one think about how much worse things could get than their own situation.

Definitely keeping with this title.

As the end roll's showing it felt like a blindfolded android or a talking brown tin can might show up any minute.
I'm interested how the show will go from here. What sort of troubles will they encounter? Will they meet other humans? And generally just interested in seeing the two main cast interact with each other.

...for a moment I thought she was going to shoot.

To me, this felt like Konata and an unexpressive Kagami in a postapocalyptic wasteland, which is enough to make me want to see more. The nice music helped too.

Episode 2:

Oo, I like the style of the OP song. Somewhat cartoony but definitely appealing, visually.

Once again, we have the two main girls on their mysterious adventure. There's some fan service this episode with the water baths although I didn't find it distracting. I really love the way the music is used for this episode. It balances between the SOL-ish feel and an adventure vibe. The setting is also starting to remind me a bit of Fallout 4.

Good episode. I really like the pacing of this and the style of the storytelling.
I like that ED theme song too.

The two characters' character cemistry is also really entertaining to watch.

When she pointed the gun at her I was like noooo that doesn't happen.

I don't know when last time I felt so attached to anime characters, probably Gochiusa...

Funny you should mention Gochiusa, because it suddenly hit me in this week's episode: Chito and Yuuri are basically Chino (the voice helped) and Cocoa if they were thrown in a post apocalyptic world.

Time will tell, but this show is well on its way to becoming a slice of life classic.

Even after the second episode I remain enchanted. Two episodes in and the series appears to have its footing solidly grounded. I've noticed that in both episodes the characters have gotten dangerously close to deadly circumstances with their supplies. I wonder if this is going to be a continuing theme.

Honestly I don't understand how they are surviving. Maybe they are dead and in some kind of limbo.

Episode-wise, huh.
OP was cute though. Loved the Kill Me Baby dance thing.

I like the OP and ED a lot, both are oddly cute. The fish looked really weird to me, how was it swimming with no fins at its side? And it looked like it was just "meat" in fish-form given the girls seems to have roasted it without gutting it or taking off the scales which makes sense given they have never seen or eaten a fish, expect read about it in a book like Chi-chan. Also Power Plant Surface 72, just how many surfaces are there and are there more fish/better survival conditions up there? Guess our girls will go up and find given they have the new goal to eat lots of fish.^^

I believe you may be misinterpretating "72nd surface power plant." I rather than "power plant for the 72nd surface," it is actually exactly what it says: 72nd power plant built on the surface rather than underground.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Well kinda, yes, though Cocoa was different voice actor.

Right now I cannot force myself to read manga and spoil what happens next. I just fell in love with the anime from the first minute in.

I think you're correct. I would translate 第七十二地上発電所 as 'Above-ground power plant No. 72' though.

I avoided this show because the description made it sound way too depressing. Still I screwed up my courage and discovered it's incredibly light-hearted given its premise. The scene when Yuuri pointed the gun at Chi gave me pause, but in a show with only two characters the outcome was never in doubt.

I'm very impressed with the seiyuu. They have to carry the entire 20+ minutes alone and voice a fairly wide range of emotions and expressions for their characters. I have only seen Minase Inori (Chito) as Meteora in Re:Creators and liked her performance there as well. The same holds true for Kubo Yurika (Yuuri) who voiced a character in Kotoura-san. They seem to have great chemistry together; they'll need it.

This seems like a logical choice for Amazon after licensing Made in Abyss last season. As with that show it took me a couple of minutes to get used to the more "cartoony" character designs. There are two or three scenes where Chi is drawn with a side-wise look through slanted eyes. It was startling in contrast to her eyes' normal round appearance. Konata had that look occasionally as did Guu, and it conveys a lot of characterization in an instant.

I'm going to guess that despite having a "grandfather" the girls aren't related. I see them more as orphans having been protected by a man they called by that name.

Needless to say I'm on board for the rest of this expedition. I doubt they'll meet any other humans in only twelve episodes.

It's still fundamentally depressing but surprisingly watchable.
