This episode is probably the best so far. I like how the baddy this time actually had time to develop his problem to the point of losing his heart, unlike those other times where these guys have 5 seconds of show time before they become bad guy fodder.

Sometimes is good to see how the fodder's episode of the week actually is granted development, so the audience can see him or her as a person and not just random case that gets posessed by the baddies.

Episode 12
This episode features a lot of Mana, so it's almost automatically going to be blah. Here, she's being her usual self - helping people out all the time, etc. The problem with all of this is that she's not an interesting character, and this is more of her being not interesting. We don't even get much out of the other characters either; even Makoto is relegated to just a minor role. Instead, we get character-of-the-week Jun who tries to act as Mana junior.
He fails, and gets turned into the monster-of-the-week. About the only noteworthy part of this is that the monster gets a change of heart, very much akin to what commonly happens in Heartcatch. The difference is that it doesn't work here. Most of the monsters-of-the-week were produced for the most ridiculously trivial reasons: missing a crossing light, wanting to jump a queue and so on. So why is Jun's monster so special to get a change of heart? It's inconsistent and unnecessary. Really it speaks to a larger problem with the show wherein the creators seem to be flailing about a bit. It's like they want to recapture the feelings that some of the older shows managed to engender, but have no good ideas on how to do so. Quote:
Jun will never be as awesome as Ban! In any case, I wonder if that one is going to mean anything.

Oh man, being Rikka is suffering. She may as well be called the next Homura or Sayaka (from Madoka Magica). Or Zoidberg (from Futurama). Kid's probably gonna wind up a yandere before the series even hits the halfway mark.
I have to wonder where Regina's fascination with Mana comes from? Other than trying to get in her good graces only to betray her later on for some nefarious purpose the Selfish have hidden up their sleeve. |

Poor kid. It's only a matter of time before the fanfiction jumps on the bandwagon.
... You'll have to excuse me, my keyboard beckons *flies away* Anyway, "strong girl in both powers and personality"? Sounds like Kurusugawa Himeko reincarnated and became a bad girl XD Better keep your wife in check, Rikka!...preferably without bloodshed. Everyone loves a good harem ending. |

Now I wonder if Ace is Regina or the Queen. Not sure what this is
