It must be good thing that I didn't notice anything you said while watching.

The only thing I noticed is the coloring error for Kaoru's hair (the "puppy ears" were black) when she was climbing up that cliff.

Kanami so strong, doesn't even have to really fight seriously

Well, I think she was quite serious this time, but she's definitely having an easier time with her opponent than Hiyori was. One wonders how much of it is because Shidou is stronger and how much of it is because Kanami is stronger.

To be fair, all Kanami did was blocking the attack. It not that she gained upper hand over her opponent.

Also, considering Kanami, she probably had everything planned. Kanami is aware that they'll end up with Elite Guards as enemies, so all they have to do is overpower one of them and escape. (She probably knew it from the part where Ellen's spectrum sensor didn't pick up the Aradama and their previous talk about certain Aradama being assigned as an exception, and well, their enemy has always been the Origami Family faction.) What baffled me was that they decided to attack Maki instead of the clearly much weaker Suzuka. I guess Kanami thought that defeating Maki means a massive loss of power for the pursuers, based on their one-on-one experience with the two Elite Guards.

In any case, poor Suzuka for being underestimated like that.

I wouldn't go that far - if she had that much of an edge ... she would simply have beaten Suzuka.

Well we don't know if Kanami go all-out, the only thing she care is Hiyori, she in guard mode and Suzuka even though pressure Kanami, can't go pass her defense. Beside Suzuka kenjutsu style revolve around opponent aggressive attack to create opening, if Kanami just go on defense mode Suzuka can't do much thing, well conclusion Suzuka can be beaten if not for her experience for going to Final Match two time and being a Elite Guard. I swear Kanami will beat almost everyone when it come down to swordmanship alone

Kanami is actually starting to feel a bit like a Mary Sue, and hopefully this doesn't happen.

Kanami is a "counter-puncher", and she has shown enough wisdom to not fight battles she cannot win. This is very different from the typical protagonist who charges headstrong into battle. Also, as vietthai96 has said, Suzuka is also specializes in countering, so what Suzuka did in the entire match is inconsistent to her swordsmanship style and so she cannot do anything if she was forced to be offensive.

If Kanami is a Mary Sue, then both Ikki Kurogane (Rakudai Kishi) and Glenn Radars (Akashic Records) are Mary Sues. But they are not Mary Sues. They are better called as counterplay strategists. Whatever brute strength the enemy holds can be taken down by enough strength and tons of cunning.

By definition a Mary Sue and a Gary Stu are those who can succeed with nary a scratch in any given situation, no matter how far south it goes. Even the best tacticians and counter fighters can't successfully counter everything, especially Kanami who has none of the years of experience of her seniors.

There should be no reason for her to counter-act everything the plot throws at her. It's early in the run so of course there should be a natural threat progression and it's still within suspension of disbelief to assume things are still within her abilities, but as things stands if we reach halfway through the story and she's still managing to outsmart and outfight the heavy hitters then we have a problem.

Think whatever you want, but if someone wins every time with minimal problems, that's a Mary Sue to me. It doesn't matter how they pull it off.

The show still has time to fix this but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Having a Mary Sue, especially if it's not as blatant as Tatsuya Shiba, patron saint of supremacy in plot, is the least of my concerns in the show.

Kanami and Hiyori can't win the fight with Kaoru and Elen though. The limitation of their power had been set and showed.

But of course you probably still call them "Mary Sue" because they outwitted them by escaping.

.................................

People nowadays seem to use the word "Gary Stu" and "Mary Sue"as a convenience way to talk bad on character when they can't think of other reasons why they want to dislike main character. Thus, the words keep having less and less meaning. MC can't be strong/unbeatable in his/her story without being "Mary Sue" eh?. How do people define "wins with minimal problems" anyway? how much is not 'minimal problems'? If there is no clear meaning, and it differs from person to person, then any MC can be potentially called "Gary Stu" or "Mary Sue".
