I've found a clip comparing Japanese, English, Mandarin and Cantonese on youtube. The english version is...a little odd. Especially since I'm not used to their voices...

I'd imagine, sure, but some people prefer dubs and/or like to at least see how the dubs are like. In the Cantonese and Mandarin case, I believe it is actually being aired on television (I think it's on some cable network, but anyway).

English dub is kinda bad, they just can't find a naturally young sounding voice actress I guess.
Shana in the Mandarin dub is pretty good, even the "urusai x3" is reasonably good. Yuuji's voice is not as good as Shana's voice, but not bad either. But Alastor's voice doesn't match him, he sounds like a narator. The Cantonese dub is so bad, Shana sounds like a 30 year old, and Yuuji too. But I recognize Shana's seiyuu though, she did a lot of Cantonese dubs for TVB. |

The English voiceovers had to speak fast to keep up with the animation. Also it's a bit weird listening to how an English speaker pronounces Japanese name. It'll be better if they had a more westernized name though.
The Mandarin version is a little better, but I feel the translation and words used are too formal. The "urusai" x3 part was acted well though... The cuteness is there. The Cantonese version had a Shana voiceover who's too matured... I think they spoke a little fast in there too. |

i just think that dubs arent' good.
first of all, it doesn't convey the true feelings the characters felt, and the eng pronunciation of the names, including nietono no shana sounded wierd. it just feels weird when u hear english/chinese/cantonese when u are watching JAPANESE anime lol. the chinese and the cantonese dub wasn't tt bad tho lol. it sounded on par with the original japanese voices. in conclusion, sub>dub imo |

Watched that YouTube link..and I must say...
Japanese: #1 of course. Hands down. Guaranteed. Mandarin: #2. Definitely on par with the flow of the original. English: OMG. WTF. I can't believe this isn't dead last. Why? Two reasons: 1. Alastor sounded better. 2. See below. Cantonese: Good gawd. How they butchered it. How they shamed the dialect... |
