Funimation is premiering the first episode today as as special premiere for the Final Season.

Saw it today. It's the dubs (subs will probably be out when it airs on TV later in April)

This is the first time I've seen the English dub version and the voices actually work pretty well for the cast.

Akito's personality in particular carried a good amount of emotional momentum in the first half. Nice to see the cast return again with Tohru, Yuki, Shigure, etc. It's a nice start for the final season imo as it reintroduces not just the main cast but also the Zodiacs.

I'm ready for another emotional ride.

This is in current series so... I'll just use this one.

I'm not sure what to think about Akito. Her mother is apparently to blame for the fact she turned out like this, but Akito is still a complete psychopath regardless. I'm also not yet convinced the mother is worse than the daughter. It would pretty much require her to have successfully killed somebody to be worse. And she seems more about emotional manipulation (something Akito also does) than violence.

I guess Tohru will end up being Akito's surrogate mommy just like with Yuki.

Fruits Basket returns for it's final season! And with a new Opening that's just as pleasant as past Openings and features several of the series' couples looking at each other or looking in parallel .

So we meet Ren Sohma, Akito's mother, who is a beauty but was also the one who raised Akito as male her entire life. Why did she do this? Ren rightfully calls out how wrong the bond and connections between the zodiac are, but she seems to be doing it less out of a moral compunction but more out of spite for her daughter, and Akito ends up clinging to the Zodiac bond because she's received no love from her mother. It's gotten so bad Akito almost seems to be straight up trying to kill Ren and Ren welcomes it if it means reuniting with Akito's father. Man, these Sohma's are messed up .

I wonder what's weirder. A bunch of boys trying to feel your stomatch because their god is in your belly before you know you're pregnant or having animal spirits take over your personality and draw you to said god ?

Tohru is left reeling with what to do after Kureno's revelation and the fact that he won't leave Akito because of her emotional damage, but Ta-da! Here comes Hanajima when Tohru needs her the most and ready to let Tohru know that she has to take care of herself rather than beating herself up trying to make everyone happy. Even Arisa doesn't want her own fialed love to hurt Tohru .

I can't say Shigure doesn't deserve being forced to eat Yuki's terrible cooking .

Lucky Megumi getting to spend time with a bunch of cute, older, girls .

So...Akito and Kureno had sex, right? That scene of them together, and then we see Kureno's shirt unbuttoned and Akito looked naked in bed .

Kyo being there for Tohru as always, finding her scarf and bringing it back to her. She even did the pom-poms again .

I don't see anything good coming from Rin infiltrating the Sohma compound and dealing with Ren .

The new Ending has some beautiful Natsuki Takaya art. Some of which is actually spoilers, but still nice. And closing out with Tohru and Kyo .

I think it does explain why Akito is so obsessed with maintaining the curse. Her own mother apparently never loved her and basically rejected her, so Akito had to grasp at a forced love and loyalty that she could rely on because she probably thinks she'll be alone otherwise. Even Ren seems to think so when she's decrying the curse.

Not that that justifies any of what she's done, but she seems very emotionally messed up in the head (both mother and daughter).

I'm going to have to watch some of all or season two. I thought this episode was lovely, but I need a refresher on all the supporting characters.

I usually have a pretty bad memory, but I think I remember them all here. Maybe because I love this show.

I'm more than twice your age. Not sure all my neurons are still firing at capacity. And while I like Fruits Basket, it's still an 8/10 show for me.
