Bitter Virgin

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ency...ga.php?id=7714

I must say, when I first read the description, I was a bit skeptical. I'm not one to be put off by the kind of stuff that's in there, but I wondered if it could be executed well. I gave this a shot and it turned out to be very good. Now I'm stuck here dying for more chapters of this great manga. Be warned though, there is some adult subject matter.

Kei Kusunoki is a great mangaka and most if not all of her stuff is unliscensed. You should definitely check out more titles by this author. girls saurus/dx is a really really funny take on a harem manga. some of the others are good as well.

It's a shojou. Not a bad one but a Shojou nonetheless.

I prefer Girl Saurus more. But then I'm a Ai Kora fan too.

No, this is a seinen manga. It is serialized in the seinen manga magazine Young GanGan.

Shoujo manga --> manga for girls.
Josei manga --> manga for young women.

Shounen manga --> manga for boys.
Seinen manga --> manga for young men.

Damn,

I would never have pegged this as a Seinen, considering it's all about girls being mean to each other.

There was 9 months difference between the publication of the first and the second volume, and the second volume was released on Januray 2007. So for an estimation I would say in October 2007 would be the release of the third volume >.<

Does anyone know why this is the case? It's not like Kusunoki Kei is some unknown mangaka...is Bitter Virgin really doing that badly in Japan?

I have no idea of its popularity in Japan. Looking at it, it doesn't really scream "popular". Which is a shame, because I really like it. I just love Aikawa and Suwa's struggle of their feelings towards each other.
Spoiler for Chapter 16:
However, the sooner Ibuse dies, the better this manga will become.

Ibuse may need to die but Yuzu is still alive and kicking.

She poses some real fundamental problems - as she was the one who was there for Suwa in his darkest hours and is the one more likely to meet his emotional needs. In addition Aikawa seems to need Yuzu's support as much as Suwa's; and the two seem to make a very strong team.

As far as I can tell Ibuse fits the role of the "casual girlfriend", Aikawa as the "serious girlfriend", and Yuzu as the "wife". While the usual route is for Suwa to end up with Aikawa after several roadblocks, I could definitely see him with Yuzu and the two working together to support Aikawa. It would be interesting if Suwa at least sees that possibility, even if it doesn't work out that way.
