Actually, I think you're thinking of 子 for children. Crazy kanji radicals. 字 as a stand-alone means "character."

Actually it's "時". When combined with "間" the word "時間" means time in Mandarin although in Japanese it can be used to describe either one hour or a "period" of time as well. In the case of Negima it is the later when used with the word "目" totalling in "時間目" - "class period". This is a form used only in Japanese as the syntax is invalid in Mandarin.

It's fine. You got the meaning right, so it is all good There are over tens of thousands of Kanji characters (well, if you include those that are part of the Chinese language but are not used in Japanese) so I doubt even native users would get all of them. I, for one, suck at them.

Anyway, nice to see that ch 196 raw is up. I'll patiently wait for the translation because all I can decipher is kanji, sighs... I agree with some older posts that I doubt the tournament would last very long since we just had a tournament not too long ago.

I welcome the aspect that perhaps using Nagi's name is going to draw some attention from friends and enemies of the Thousand Master. It would make the story more interesting. Best yet is that the other girls find out of the news and tries to go there, thus gathering the crowd. I would really like to see the others in ch 197 though, rather than wait till the tournament is over.

Looks like Instead of attracting one of the missing girls.

Negi by using Nagi has attracted the attentation of Fate and one of Nagi's old buddies.(guy with the big Sword).

Instead of making a adventure finding the girls a centerpiece of the story, they ken-san is going to go full steam ahead with the plot and use it to pick up the girls along the way.

Also Just realize this. Back in c188, one of Fate's team member recognize Asuna as the Princess. When did they figure that out?

Actually, I really think that the next chapter (or the one after that) will begin to shift focus away from Negi's current situation and instead focus on the rest of his Ministra Magi, Kaede and Ku Fei, and Anya.

The reason why I'm saying this: from what I read on the AQS boards, it's going to be a month (Magic World time) before the finals of the tournament that Negi and Kotarou have to take part in as a way of rescuing Ako, Akira, and Natsumi from slavery. Thus, it gives plenty of time for the rest of the crew to arrive at the tournament area in order to regroup with Negi. Considering how most of the fighters that Negi and Kotarou have battled are pushovers (heck, this chapter skipped a 13+ fights that they took part in during a week's period Magic World timewise), there's really no need to continue focusing on them before the finals start. So, this current situation will give us a chance to see the status of the rest of the girls as they try to regroup with Negi (while I could see the Library Trio possibly heading directly into town, the rest may end up getting involved in separate prize fights as a way to reach Negi's current destination).

Are you talking about the one with two swords (or at least one's a sword...)? I think that might be Tsukuyomi from volume 4. The one who worked with that one lady with an army of monkeys. Don't know about the "Princess" part. Maybe she now knows about it, if it is Tsukuyomi. Tsukuyomi's speech bubbles had hearts as well.

I really hope the tournament arc doesn't last too long, if it's going to take one chapter for each battle then I hope there will only be about 1 or 2 more battles.

However, it more than likely that Ken is doing this so that way he can set up a point where he can shift focus to the rest of the girls, who, upon realizing the "Nagi" hint, will begin to make their way to where the tournament is being held.

Smart move IMO, because I'm getting sick and tired of have to wait to find out Nodoka's current status (not to mention that the volume 21 of the Negima manga is probably the worst volume of that manga IMO).

The chapter opens with Makie and Yuuna who are working at this bar/restaurant place and they found out that the gates to the real world are damaged and won't be repaired until 3 years later. While they are freaking out, they saw Negi (in adult form of course) in this national broadcast where he tells them to meet him at this place a month from now. Back to Negi and the others, they also know about the damaged doors, but they know that there is still one door in this ancient capital place that can be used to go back to the real world. They finish another fight...blah, blah...and the chapter ends with this mysterious guy commenting on Negi's potential.

Interesting chapter. I kinda want to think that maybe Asuna and Setsuna (or Kaede and Ku or whatever combination) might end up in the finals as well somehow. But there has been no current publicity of great female fighters, so that may be unlikely. And considering they have bounties, it makes it even more unlikely :/ I just want to see the girls fighting again sometime soon :P

Wow, Negi sure is a trouble magnet. After wandering the streens wondering about what he 'misses' he encounters the tall guy from last chapter, shortly before getting attacked by a black ribbon manipulator person... thing... anyway, its kicking Negi's ass pretty badly untill the tall guy from last chapter offers some advice/words of encouragement (I don't believe there's any doupt that he is Nagi's old partner now) after which Negi begins to kick ass again.

Really, with all this stuff happening in-between, it makes me wonder what the hell is planned for the tournament.

Come on, the tournament is not the current focus, Negi's power-up is. I really don't get why ppl still think tournament is the focus when Negi keeps saying 'must get stronger' and keeps owning all opponents' a$$e$ in tournament with ease, the tournament is just a background. And seriously, Yuna and Makie are featured in chapter 197, biggest worry (safety for residents of normal world who are accidently trapped in magic world) is gone, and Negi needs a power-up and someone he can be trained under when Eva is absent more than anything else. I don't think the story should shift from Negi before this is done. So I guess two more Negi chapters, at least, are necessary.

By the way, you forgot our sweet Net Idol, so we actually have Negi's Ministra Magi recently.
