I rate it a 3 stars (out of 5).
nah, i beg to differ that there is no plot to it. Basically, this anime/manga is about a boy who is gifted to be able to see those microbes/germs but at the current stage, he doesn't see it as a gift. Sooner or later, with the help of the "germs" themselves, professor and the rest, i am pretty sure that he will start to grow some likings for them and in fact, he will do something better (maybe it be a research or something).

Anyway, moyashimon is pretty educational - they have to make it cute and hilarious so that it can appeal to the mass and not some boring biological textbooks.

And... how does that make it a plot? >.>...
I'm talking about the anime, haven't read the manga and really not interested either. I found it to be just about a boy who is able to see germs, is bored out of his skull, makes a few friends, loses his power, regains his power, end of anime.

ta-da, there you are... you are writing a plot out. Plot can be of any kind...

"plot, the pattern of events and situations in a narrative or dramatic work, as selected and arranged both to emphasize relationships—usually of cause and effect—between incidents and to elicit a particular kind of interest in the reader or audience, such as surprise or suspense....." taken from answers.com

it is a narrative work - even though, it may sound like some typical shonen stuff or some boring work but the story telling itself is a plot. Just that you might not find it interesting.

If you do find it boring, then maybe, this is just not your kind - and you can gladly drop it. As for me, I still find it pretty amusing - because, not a lot of animes/manga out there are on micro-organisms...

Meh, guess you're right. And how can I drop something I already watched? xD If there's a sequel, I wouldn't hesitate to watch it since I almost always watch the sequels of animes I've already watched. I guess it does have a plot, it just doesn't feel like one.

On a side note, the creator must have one heck of an imagination to make germs look so... friendly and funny looking o.o'

haha, okieokie. Guess that the author has to do that... if not, it will really be boring... Imagine having those slimy, twirly stuff (bah and without any color) - looking exactly the same from the microscope - popping out and talking to one another... that will be totally eyeballs dropping for me. and another important note is.. "merchandise merchandise" Lolz. This is a commercialised world.

Moyashimon is more a "slice-of-life" show than a plot-driven one. Looking at that list of shows in your signature I don't see anything else that falls into the s-o-l category, so perhaps you're just not familiar with shows in this genre.

Moyashimon is actually somewhat more plot-driven than purely "slice-of-life" shows like Hidamari Sketch or ARIA. There are plot threads that continue through all eleven episodes.

Now that you mention it... the form given to the germs are indeed perfect for fluffy toys and whatnot xD The show itself didn't include much about the germs other than the guy being able to clearly see them and how to take advantage of that. They were more like a symbolic icon to the anime rather then being the center of attention. They were more seen in the OP and ED and the little lessons after the ED.

Oh I'm familiar with the S-O-L genre alright, I've watched animes like "School Days" and "xxxHolic" which fall into that genre, and some other. And by the way, Clannad: After Story (which is on the list) also falls into that genre =P.

Well its a SOL anime so that adds up the randomness, you have a guy going to school who's got no really grasp on what he wants to do and its all about him meeting new people and finding himself in a mellow manner...and he can see microbes :P

I find this show great for romance and character better than most romance based shows that are worse with meandering about.

Damn, Oryzae post it notes just got listed on CDJapan for preorder
http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/goods/goods...EY=NEOGDS-2100

They keep re-listing certain Moyashimon goods for re-release. Wish they would do that with those original series plush toys. I forgot to pre-order and they were all gone by the time I remembered.

They were randomly appearing on other sites. (Amazon.jp for one.)

Just finished to watch this anime.

When I watched it, it reminded me of my 4th high school biology class (optional class).
Back then, we even made raw wine! (lol and we were all minor. The wine had an equivalent of 78% of alcool in it since we didn't filtered it)

Now now... I wonder if, after watching this show, people didn't started to make some "chewed" sake in their basement... -_-" Hope not for their own sake. (lol... a 2-meaning sentence. XD)

Normal fermentation only allows you to reach 12% of alcohol, you need to distill it - or just add some pure ethanol - to get a stronger spirit.

Oh, anyone got the chance to play with the Moyashimon DS yet? it looks sooooo wordyyy and you have to "play along" with the microbes... I will definitely need a walkthrough for it. But, it looks cute though.
