ISML welcomes back Akemi Homura, Honma Meiko, Kanzaki H. Aria, Kirishima Shōko, Konoe Subaru, and Makise Kurisu. Kotegawa Yui gets in after four years of trying. Completely new to ISML are Araragi Karen, Araragi Tsukihi, Kurasaki Fūko (Sky Raker), Momo Belia Deviluke, Nyarlathotep, Roromiya Karuta, Sanka Rea, Shirakiin Ririchiyo, and Takanashi Tōka.

- Haganai were fighting just for seeding, but they won their matches anyway, although Sena let Inori get alittle too close. (I originally said Yozora)

- TLR wanted to prove they belong in ISML, and they mostly proven themselves worthy at the moment. (won 3 out of 5 matches)
(a) Lala couldn't advance (Nyaruko is a good choice as well), but her sister Momo advances on her behalf.
(b) Kotegawa was the surprise of the round as she ended her own slump of not reaching the regular season (after 3 years) by winning against Dekomori.

(c) And Mikan can't wait for the season to start; she gets revenge against the two challengers that beat her in Phase I, and beats Shinobu by 25 votes.

- After missing out on the prelims and an opportunity to reach the regular season last year, Karen and Tsukihi advance with little trouble this time. However Tsukihi winning meant that Ritsu is still stuck in the preliminaries for four years in a row.

- Neko and Anna had a chance to advance based on Phase I and II records, but they couldn't win the important match. On the other hand Fuuko rebounded from less than impressive earlier matches and wins the match against Anna to advance.

- Ririchiyo and Karuta advance on behalf of Inu x Boku (Karuta also adds to the number of Hanazawa representatives in the regular season at 8

- Shana won her match, but the interesting result was Kirino ended up a very close second. Yui-nyan also won her match, but Yami ended up in 2nd which wasn't too bad either.

Nyaruko made it. I'm fulfilled beyond belief. Most of the characters I was rooting for seemed to make it as well. I'm looking forward to the regular season.

Sigh, complete shut out for TWOGK. Elsie probably could have made it in against a different opponent, but Homura was too strong for her.

We now have the last of the regular season competitors. Congrats to those who made it!

It's not exactly out of nowhere considering her recent performances but Dekomori really does end up missing regular season. Kotegawa Yui manages to beat the Mjolnir Hammer to put yet another To-love-ru character in the regular season. Even if Dekomori wasn't her older self, Kotegawa Yui wouldn't have won if she didn't have strength of her own.

Kurugaya nearly choked against Oda Nobuna and has a repeat weak performance here. There were plenty of times where I wasn't sure if Menma would make it but she does in the end.

Homura nearly lets victory slip out of her grasp but manages to hold on at the very end. Like the other characters that advance through Phase III, her future in the regular season isn't too bright but I'm happy to see her make it in again.

Sanka Rea surprises me in being able to get past Shiori. I supposed I expected a close match but I didn't think Shiori would lose. Sanka Rea is probably the most likely character to go winless. I'd be really happy if she can prove me wrong, though.

In the seeding matches, the Chuunibyou and SAO characters really take a beating. Maybe they'll do better when Asuna and Rikka are around.

For results...

1. Inaban...sigh...
2. Both Ririchiyo-sama and Karuta made it, though
3. Dekomori...TLR is THAT strong?
4. For the seeding...
a. Kobato winning is not a surprise. Yui (SAO) took a huge beating, though.
b. So did Sugu. The bigger surprise for me is Inorin nearly beating Niku, though, especially when...
c. When you consider how strong Haganai is with Yozora winning her group. Okay, maybe it's just Kud being weak...
d. Mikan edged out Shinobu...okay, moving on
e. Kirino finishing this close to Shana...certainly will be even stronger when Oreimo S2 starts
f. Lastly, Yui-nyan showing AB is still hanging around...

This year's regular season exhibition will be 2v2 for days 1-7 and maybe some 1v1 during the necklace match. The 2v2 matches will be FF vs FF or MF vs MF.

About the PV, our PV maker is very busy nowadays, but if you want to give it a try we'll consider all submissions.

She had one match this year and was paired with Shana which completely ruined the reliability of her performance. I just gave her the rating she had back in 2010. For the most part each day of preliminaries seemed to do a good job of advancing the strongest characters. Tsumugi probably would have been a better choice of a K-On character than Ui for the regular season but it's not really a big deal. Holo is probably in a lot of trouble. I felt the group she won to advance was a bit weak and even then Holo was probably lucky to advance. On top of that, Holo tends to do better in preliminaries than the regular season. The characters Holo jumped over the make the regular season weren't going to do much either but Holo's situation is particlarly bad. Good luck Holo, you'll need it. The top 36 in my stats were the 36 to advance. It's sort of amusing that Touwa Erio was able to advance through Phase I despite only being as strong as the average character to advance through Phase III. In the end it isn't really a problem because Erio is strong enough to be considered regular season material. However, matches like Erio vs Shouko vs Homura vs Koneko in Phase I should probably be avoided in the future. I'm really surprised at how well Takanashi Touka did in the end. In terms of nomination support she trailed Dekomori and Kumin by a lot but ended up way stronger than both of them. Touka got lucky that she got enough nomination support to make it into preliminaries. I wonder how many regular season candidates fail to even make preliminaries because they aren't as lucky as Touka. I've said this before, but I'd really have loved to have seen Lizbeth for SAO in preliminaries. Maybe she wouldn't be strong enough to make the regular season but I think she would have made a strong attempt at making it. A lot of people seem to be selling Sky Raker short but the performances she's had so far have been pretty good for a character advancing through Phase III. I'm hoping she can keep it up in the regular season to prove that she deserves to be here. Looking back I think Koneko should have been given a more winable match up than Momo. I don't think she could beat Tsukihi but Sanka Rea would have been a good match even if Koneko would be the underdog. Although, I don't think the decision to have Shiori face Rea was that bad. Asuna is my pick for the strongest in Nova. While not as dominant as Kanade was in Nova last year, I don't expect anyone to challenge Asuna. If anyone is going to block Asuna from winning the Tiara, they will be coming from Stella. __________________ A miracle that you believe in when you know it won't happen......... is hope.
