Lollipop Chainsaw
What is it? It is the latest game being developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, yep Suda's studio. To make it short, you are/play a (female) cheerleader swinging a chainsaw, without handbrake btw, against zombies. What is her name? Juliet Starling Does Juliet wear panties? Yep, it looks like it is purple coloured Platforms? PS3 and 360 Publisher? Kadokawa games in japan and asia. And Warner bros. Interactive for the rest of the world, yeah WB those guys you did bugs bunny and stuff, ...and who published that batman game, Arkham Asylum. Will it bomb like the title published by EA? You can bet on it... or maybe not, since it seems like WB will be making an effort to push this title to the mass market, especially in the west. It actually is some kind of cooperation between both companies, you can read more over on andriasang.com Apparently the guy who did the Dawn of the Dead remake is supervising parts of the game, yeah that guy who took romero's film and made it into somekind of retarded blockbuster movie So it is not directed by Suda Goichi, Suda51 Well he is the creative director, what ever that means, but no How is James Gunn involved in this ? He is involved with the story, dialogue, and characters, more on siliconera Wait..who is James Gunn? Seriously ? He is the bloke who wrote the first two Scooby-Doo movies. Where is the official homepage ? http://lolli.jp (JPN) http://www.lollipopchainsaw.com (global) http://www.youtube.com/user/lollichainsawJPN (Japanese youtube channel) Release date TBA Why no screens? Don't like hotlinking, and cannot be bothered reading the copyright and trademark terms. But you can find screens at the usual places, like andriasang.com (this is actually a gallery link) www.famitsu.com www.4gamer.net http://game.watch.impress.co.jp No port begging please! Okay, I see the Qs and As, and raise a few of my own...
What is this thing? At first blush, Buffy the Vampire Slayer with some infusion of Suda51 nuttiness. Who'll like it? Aside from Suda51 fans, folks who liked House of the Dead: Overkill's campiness might check this out. Is there really a companion who happens to be a disembodied head? Yes (cue Mimir jokes). Bonus points if it's possible to behead a zombie and have said head temporarily borrow the body. Are you going to get this? Likely not, mostly due to things already in the queue (finishing Vanquish, then collecting Bodycount, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and WH40K: Space Marine... speaking of which latter I wish you could freely import logos like you could in Homeworld 2 and the Dawn of War games - Crimson Guard Space Marines, anyone?) What about, shall we say, interesting fanart of Juliet? I will neither confirm nor deny the existence of any such creations.

Err.. the publisher thinks that english speaking gamers are in the minority. That is what all the pages for the other regions are up, except for US and GB. ^^
Well, except for the japanese site their is nothing interesting on the other regional pages atm. But there is this twitter thing, http://twitter.com/#!/julietstarling, apparently some guy is posing as juliet and is posting things on it. How is James Gunn involved in this ? He is involved with the story, dialogue, and characters, more on siliconera Wait..who is James Gunn? Seriously ? He is the bloke who wrote the first two Scooby-Doo movies. This might be a lot of fun if it has "awesome acrobatic fight moves" as she uses her cheerleading skills to cut her way through zombie hordes. And, of course, they're cheating by invoking Twin Tails. Frankly, I'm hoping we can tweak her looks a bit though (royally f'ing tired of the "blonde" overload in media). Oh, and I'm stunned that the domain "lolli.jp" was not taken before this game's existence. (update: wife leaned over and saw the twin-tail-skull-with-lollipop logo and insisted I print it out for some knittery thing she has in mind... more perky goth stuff looms)

Personally, i'd be thinking something along the lines of the student council president in Toradora (Sumire... take names and kick butt with a snarl) or even a character somewhat like that unkillable twintail assassin in the Sluggy comics.

He's actually talking about Rei Hiroe, the author of Black Lagoon and the idea of Sawyer the Cleaner as the unlockable character. Which seems oddly random, to be honest... other than the fact that she is also a girl, and also fights with a chainsaw.

(regoogles for Sawyer) ... ahhhh, NOW it makes a bit of sense in terms of looks and physical build. Sorry about the confusion.

Amusing trailer, by the way... though thanks to all that bloodshed and a certain other set of games, I can see an alternate color scheme for Juliet that's long on red and brass...

If you want a more experimental game, get Michigan: Report from Hell (PS2), only available as PAL or NTSC-J. Game was directed by Ueda Akira. No More Heroes: Heroes' Paradise is MMV and Feelplus, the IP is owned by MMV, so i don't think Suda51 and his studio will see a dime. |
