The flashback was a smart move. It was both cute to see Rin getting started in camping and it served as a small tutorial for people that forgot some of the basics between the seasons.

Guess we'll be starting off with a Rin camping trip next week. Glad though we still got a short scene with Rin and Nadeshiko before the first episode was over. Chatting via text is fine, but it is nice when these two are together.

Rin's solo adventures are my favorite part of the series. I like the way things are starting out.

Well, now she has extra time to go and try the curry. I hope she has enough money, though.

Aki had a pretty good idea, but even if she had gotten the time right, they wouldn't have been able to make it.

Loved that Ena didn't care about the sunrise and prioritized her sleep. Though waking up at 9am on New Year's is still early.

I was surprised to see Rin encounter the girl woman who gave her tea before. An unexpected reunion.

Somehow this show always makes food and drink look so good...

Those are some really beautiful sunrises.

That may be the most over-the-top 30kph driving I've ever seen.

I like Ena's approach. Sleep in. The sun will still be there when I get up later.

Lucky Star did it too, except that Yui's a real speed demon getting up to 40 km/h.

I watched the first two chapters, it was great how they show rin in her first camping trip and her inexperience and the second chapter she now plans so carefully and everything when perfectly until the end, life always give you surprises.

this with non non biyori will make this season the best.

Rin didn't have to solo camp for three whole days in the end. Nadeshiko invited her to her grandma's, where Rin met Ayano. Ayano seems like an alright girl, but there's not really much to go on yet.

We learned more about Nadeshiko. I thought it was odd they didn't show her face in the first episode flashback when she passed by Rin, now I know why.

For one reason or another, I always seem to forget just how long Rin's hair is, probably because she usually sports the famous bun or hides it beneath her clothes.

So Nadeshiko was a chubby kid I can see why people keep feeding her

Kind of refreshing in a way that Nadeshiko ended up overweight due to overeating. Although I feel like her friend absolutely contributed to that out of an enjoyment of watching her eat. Even if her father got more of the blame for it. Either way...her sister certainly took care of the situation. And worked out well for Nadeshiko since it both shed some of that weight and gave her the biking stamina to eventually meet Rin.

Honestly really enjoyable when Rin and Nadeshiko can hang out. Even when it is just eating some eel or looking at seagulls. I appreciate that Rin still totally loves solo camping and they didn't give her some arc where she stops liking it as much and instead falls in love with group camping. She can enjoy other things while still preferring what she originally liked.

I'm very glad they didn't do that, too. Rin's solo camping reminds me of my own solo hiking, and I totally get what she said she likes about it.

Meanwhile, all those seagulls reminded me of my day-trip this past summer out to Anacapa Island, off the Southern California coast. It's a little chain of rocks poking up out of the ocean, but 90% of all the Western Gulls on the California coast were hatched there. Nadeshiko and Rin may have been enchanted with the gulls on the railroad tracks, but it kind of wears thin after a whole day on an island full of them. They're noisy and they smell.

Also meanwhile, for a moment I thought the girls from Diary of Our Days at the Breakwater might show up during the eel-preparation scene.

There's something to be said about the charm of solo activities. Glad they are flexible enough with Rin to let her enjoy her preferences while branching out when she's up for it. The variety in camping experiences is a treat to watch.

Been a while since I saw that many seagulls hanging around. Of course moved further out from the ocean so just aren't that many in the first place . Though rather than any cute scene of them flying around all at once, I mostly just remember them hopping around looking for french fries .

I was impressed at the eel-preperation scene. Although I could also relate to Nadeshiko in not being big on the blood. Very smooth scene visually.
