Sometimes I wonder why does every story on syosetu needs to start with reincarnation when most of the time the protagonist's previous life has nothing to do with the new one, the only thing he gets from it is being able think in a mature way while still being a toddler which could be done anyway with the excuse that he's a super genius without being a reincarnated person.

an escapist fantasy that so many NEET wants. that is why it's popular and prevalent.
but still, it's enjoyable as an entertainment. considering the grimdark theme that is although, this kind of story could be better if there's no such OPness |

I actually enjoy OP protagonists, but when it comes down to it, most of these reincarnations stories don't really have an OP protagonist, sure he usually can easily trash a lot of fodders, but when the time comes to fighting powerful enemies he will have a hard time or lose, so no most of them are not OP.
And the escapism doesn't work because like I said before, you make a reincarnated protagonist but never refer to his previous life in any significant way in the plot, that's just useless reincarnation.

having a same theme and genre doesn't mean it's copycat.
take example the sword of shannarra and fellowship of the ring. it's like copy paste but with different name, setting, race and ending. plus it seems this kind of genre is popular here right now, seeing as it is fresh. anyway, if you like reincarnation theme, try the first fifteen lives of harry august. it's an english novel that is completed and not a series, so you could devour it in one go (i know i did) the basic premise is that the MC is reborn in a timeloop when he dies, but he can retain memories of his previous lives and events, including regrets, tragedy, and sorrow, not just happy things. |

well, it's fantasy and the story about japanese in japan almost dried-up. so reincarnated to another world or to be short[Isekai] genre is mainstream now since it has more plot, fantasy, unknown technologies, unknown place, unknown world, different kind of races, more vulgar content[toned down by the publisher later]
