Yea, I feel your pain. That Sheryl is Maos grand-daughter could have been explored in much more detail, but the way it was introduced, it seemed like more of a superfluous afterthought.

Although it lent another nice layer to the extent to which Grace went to get her revenge.

That's what boggles my mind. It's not as if Sheryl being the grand daughter of Mao affects the whole love triangle issue anyway. Heck, Sheryl's lineage hardly plays a significant role in the series, which is, as we all know, a missed opportunity—a loaded gun whose trigger is still waiting to be pulled.

Another thing that gets to me, is during the Macross Zero adaptation episodes. We don't see Sheryl reacting to the prospect of a movie based on the younger days of her grandmother. It's as if she's not aware of her family history at all.

As far as we know, she isn´t. She barely has any recollection of her mother and seemingly none of her father or other relatives.

Oh, I don´t doubt for a second that, if Sheryl didn´t know her real last name, Grace thought it terribly ironic to give Sheryl her real family name as an "artists name".

We never got into much detail about how much Sheryl cognizantly remembers of her childhood and how she really grew up before ending up in that alley. I still hope for some OVAs, one of which may go into detail about that.

I´d rather say, no, she did not. She said herself that she can´t remember her mothers face, and if she were aware she was related to renowned genetic scientiest Mao Nome, I think she would have at least tried to contact her, when she became aware of her condition.

I also say no because she mentioned to alto that she can' t even remember her mothers face (episode 6). so there is only a little chance that she knows who her grand parents was.
