Summer 2017: Your Expectations and Anticipated Series
Now that we are just beginning the half way point of the season, I thought it would be a good time to post the anticipation thread for the upcoming Summer 2017 anime season as well. What series are you all looking forward to, or even curious about?

Lots of shows I'm curious about, will probably end up watching only a handful, as usual...
Shoukoku no Altair (my top choice for the season, please be good, please be good) Ballroom (one more step toward a Dance Dance Danseur anime...) Vatikan kiseki chousakan (another case of "please be good, please be good") Jigoku shoujo (although I'm not at all happy to see a new girl) Dive (if it's amusing enough, also please don't have an irritating angstboat character) Ikemen Sengoku (with this title, how could I not?!) Youkai Apartment (sure, why not) Hitorijime my hero (I guess) Maybe Kakegurui too, but I'm not particularly interested in gambling. |

For some reason I started watching anime again.....
Senki Zesshou Symphogear AXZ - Love everything about this franchise, like it was made for me.... can't wait. Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e - Liked the few manga chapters that were translated. Ballroom e Youkoso - Heard the manga was pretty good, will watch. Kakegurui - Looks interesting. Shoukoku no Altair - Source material seems highly rated. Owarimonogatari 2nd Season - Whenever I get up to it... only a few seasons behind.... |

May as well chime in here.
Most Anticipated: Centaur no Nayami (I don't mind the "average" visuals if the story element is strong - I really like the manga); Made In Abyss (cgdct meets post apocalyptic steampunk lovecraftiian horrors - I enjoy the manga, but def an "acquired taste"); Princess Principal (looks like a great summer time popcorn eating campiness - visuals and audio guaranteed ... the story will be the deciding factor for me I bet); Mahoutsukai no Yome OVA 3 (final of the OVAs - tv series in Fall and soooooo looking forward to that). Mildly Anticipating: Clione no Akari (well - could be interesting, an anime original at least); Tsure-dure Children (I enjoy the source manga); Isekai Shokudou (have heard some pretty good things about this one); New Game s2 (I liked season 1 and am still following the manga). Somewhat Curious: Shoukoku no Altair (expecting this one to be the dark horse of the season for me); Hina Logi (Doga Kobo - why not?); Ballroom e Youkoso (I hope I can somehow get past the necks?); Action Heroine Cheer Fruits (because it looks silly). Total Question Marks: Nora to Oujo to Noraneko Heart. Carryover: Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul; Kirakira PreCure a la Mode. OVAs: Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen - Sakura to Futatsu no Kuma; Hitori Kurashi no Shougakusei; Kabukibu OVA; A-Channel - Nabe wo Tabeyou. Movies: There look to be some interesting movies airing in the theatres in summer, but ... well ... that is all the way over in Japan and all. ^^

To me the coming season holds nothing much interesting, so i'll just be following a few:
Fate/Apocrypha - Type-moon, oh yes I'll watch. Princess Principal - Will give 3-4 episodes try Shoukoku no Altair - People seemed to be hyped on this, will give a try to see why. Carry-over: Re:Creators, Shingeki no Bahamut: Virgin Soul,

I've been finding myself more drawn to other stuff than anime for my entertainment lately (back to books and games) so I'm guessing that the summer season will be as light for me as the spring one where I ended up not picking anything other than the safe Attack on Titan sequel.
That said here are my possible picks for the season. Must Watch:
To try:
Long shots:
And that's about it. But even though I'm listing the regular number of shows I'll probably end up just marathoning stuff left over from Spring that I still want to watch like Sakura Quest or Tsuki Ga Kirei.

Whew, much smaller list than spring, as expected. Which is good, since to be truthful I'm still not totally caught up yet last cour.
My #1 anticipated show? By far and away Love and Lies. Everyone knows I love osananajimi, but I also adore arranged marriages (as osananajimi is pretty much an informal arranged marriage ), and this series has both as the main heroines. Sure it looks like the childhood friend is on the backfoot here, but she's voiced by HanaKana. I was just ecstatic upon hearing that cast, as while the character right now is all like Onodera, I have a feeling the character has something sinister to hide. So more like Nadeko? XD Knights and Magic - I think this is the only other show with a childhood friend possible couple Youkoso Jitsuryoku whatever its too long - From the premise, it sounds like it borrows heavily from Baka Test. It looks to be a more serious spin on the story, and honestly this would've been my #1 anticipated show if it wasn't for HanaKana Fate Apocrypha - I think this would be the closest thing possible to a MOBA anime, as I'm actually intrigued by the teamplay aspect in the Fate universe Ballroom e Youkouso - Sakura Ayane as the heroine? Honestly all she is missing is a big hit heroine role, and while I don't think this is the one, I'm still here to see how well she does Gamers - MCXChiaki is like a match made in heaven... just a shame he ruins it real bad. Wanting to see if they make up is the reason why I'm watching this Keppeki Danshi Aoyama - I see a girl with an nail-studded bat (Excalibolg!), I'm in. Clione no Akari - honestly very little is known about this, but is this trying to be like AnoHana? Shorts (shame really these are shorts I would've rated them higher) Ahogirl - honestly it's nice to hear Aoi Yuuki doing something else other than her usual voice, and the scatterbrained genki girl is about as far removed as it goes. Tsurezure children - Why no Kaoru, WHY? T_T Oh well, at least Ayaneru is doing the class prez's girlfriend, which is close enough

I was going to check out a few titles (Shoukoku no Altair, among others), but with Amazon's recent streak of licensing, it looks like it's going to be another season of watching almost no anime. Aside from sequels, I just haven't been as interested in keeping up with it lately. Who knows, this Strike business might end up being the first nail in my anime coffin.
In the meantime, I'll continue inching through my backlog at a snail's pace. (Although, I might change my mind later and go the dark route.) Edit: Looks like CR picked up Aoyama-kun. Will check out and keep depending on if the humor works for me. Last edited by BPD Renegade; 2017-07-02 at 12:22. |
