Probably most serious episode yet. Good to know that Nagato survived (kinda obvious though imo). I'm also glad to see that she has the support of both Kyon and Ryoko. However, she doesn't seem to be completely like her self the way in the past few episodes.
This reminds me of her in the original series.

Could it be that Nagato's injuries (or shock) somehow reversed her personality back to somewhere between her original and new one?
I mean... Original: The Nagato that couldn't express herself at all (especially through facial expressions) New: The Nagato that is overwhelmingly shy Current Nagato (after accident): While still able to show emotions, she has difficulty expressing herself, so she uses words to show her feelings. I'm probably thinking too far, but what if she realized that she changed the world? That ought to make a really interesting story! I really loved this episode. |

On Yuki's character shift.... she's all but become her original Rei clone robot like alien self hasn't she? To the point where I'm starting to wonder if it is more than coincidence... But besides the wild mad guess theory material in this episode (like is this is world before Haruhi became a S grade reality warper ) I rather liked how they did the tone in this episode, the scene with scene with Yuki and Kyon just sitting and Kyon trying to fill the silence was well judged especially. |

Never thought I'll heard "original" (?) Nagato again.
However, with this series set in a different universe, most likely, her personality change is simply a reference to who she is in the original series. No way they will link both together at all. Still, it's nice to hear it again. The close-up shot of her at the start on the road really reminded me of how she looked like in the original series. Anyone can help me take a good screenshot? |

Seems the trauma created a Dissociative Identity Disorder.
Yuki clearly remembers faces and all that but can't associate with the feelings Yuki-chan had. Things like Asakura is her best friend that she can rely on, Kyon is the guy she is in love with. She knows this on an intellectual level but is like a third person perspective. |

I was impressed by the background music choices in this episode - quite effective and not all that complex. The result was both gentle, eerie and alien at the same time.
A very good ep ... looking forward to the final "mini arc"....

In this episode of The Disappearance of Some Moe Chick ...
The moe chick disappeared, and was replaced by a Cylon. Unfortunately, since Yuki Nagato the Cylon only really works as a counter-balance to the goddess Haruhi (as opposed to the regular genki girl who replaced her); everything about this episode simply feels wrong. Which is how it was undoubtedly intended. The mood is intentionally dark, due to the incessant rain; and the moe chick's friends don't know what to make of the Cylon that replaced her. Fans of the franchise are nakedly reminded of this series' connection to Melancholy. People who, somehow, started watching this show without having first been indoctrinated into Haruhiism will be ... perhaps a bit bored, and confused, by this episode.

But I gotta admit, as a cheerful member of the "indoctrinated", and a representative of the "Nagato Yuki being my favorite character of the Haruhi franchise" camp ... I have been shamelessly and thoroughly enjoying this one. I noticed at the end of the ED that Yuki moved towards the door ... was that something to this episode only thus far? Or has it popped up before? The slight change surprised me....

I'm so very tempted to go read the manga right now... but if I do, I'll know what will happen The previous episodes were just random good fun for me. This episode sealed the deal. I want to know more! I can't wait for next week's episode!
Also, Haruhiism is the one true Religion |

Something tells me that Satelight made a mistake on this episode as Yuki's hands wasn't wrapped in bandages in the 16:46 mark.
While I'm happy that Yuki's stoic personality has returned, I feel that the clumsy Yuki-chan will not come back anymore. Now it seems that Ryouko Asakura noticed her change of personality as if Nagato is a different person altogether. |

The usual question Asukura has for Yuki-chan boils down to "What do you want?". Yuki-chan is driven by her desires. Turkey! She wants to be more like Haruhi. She wants Kyon!
This Yuki is different thus Asakura asks "Who are you?". These are Shadow and Vorlon questions for the Younger Races. |

Feels like this will be the last arc of the season/show. It certainly was a big change from the clumsy Nagato Yuki-chan we've had to someone closer to the original Haruhi show. I liked the atmosphere the entire episode had, the melancholy feel, especially with it raining the whole time, as well as Asakura's worries. Sure, this is romantic comedy, but Asakura usually plays a big role too.
Now to see how this new/old Nagato plays off the rest of the cast. |
