There's only 11 episodes right? *sniff*.. plus a movie.

So isn't it like 11 Selecao plus the "supporter"?
XD

Even the number of episodes was selected very careful... Shows how precise this series is!

Interesting how Mononobe says he's figured out the identity of 9 other Selecao, which means he's left out 2, including #12, the suspected Supporter or even Mr Outside.

Not only did #12 sabotage on Mononobe's champagne, he's probably also the one who sent the NEET container ship back to Toyosu.

The receptionist lady who sounded like Juiz at the end is somehow connected to the game, but is not Juiz herself. It's more likely she provided the voice for the AI that is Juiz.

The reason behind why those NEETs betrayed Akira, leading him to erase his memory, is frustratingly left out. Though it seems both Saki and Mikuru has heard it.

Actually the Manager or Coach makes more sense since the 12th player can be used to reference him and hence why it's called the Supporter.

Like I said Juiz (Judge in Portuguese) is closer to the role of the referee.

Hmm... As far as soccer references goes, the "12th player" in a soccer game is the crowd.

I was a little disappointed when Mr. Outside ended being a boring revelation of an old man who really just wanted to save Japan and is already dead. But now that there's a slight chance of Mr. Outside being number XII, or just alive in general... I can see a few more big plot twists coming. A shame that Akira probably won't punch the old fool anymore, which was what I wanted to see more than anything.

My only only only complaint about this episode and the series in general... is that the last episode is next week, and they'll probably leave us hanging with a huge cliffhanger. I'm still hoping we'll catch a glimpse of the remaining unrevealed Selecao, but as of right now I don't think any of them can match up to the gnarliness of II.

Oh yes, and the music was indeed quite beautiful this episode.

I just hope they will clear the mystery behind the first episode, it'll suck if they don't. As long as they do I don't mind waiting for the movie to learn the remaining details.

Which still makes sense that 12th player = supporter.

In Japan, the English term "supporter" is used for fans of a soccer team.

What did Saki meant that she was just as guilty for wishing something bigger than the missle attacks?

Why would someone want that?

The way I understand where this show is going, I believe there is only one possibility: Disenchantment with the social ideal. A massive missile attack would probably give them the chance to make a "fresh start", much as the kid who launched them wanted. Inside her, she's as much aware of the rottenness of the social structure as the missile launcher.

And probably so are many Japanese people. It's just that it's "wrong" to accept such feelings (because it partly means going against oneself, and what one represents, etc).

The contradictions of the capitalist society! This is charming.

I can't tell for sure why Saki said that, but I can understand why someone would.
There is a growing hate and disappointment towards society and the world in general. The constant report of all the evil that happen in the world (war, crisis, fraud, corruption, criminality, pollution). I can hear more and more people making statements like "humanity will soon go extinct", and I somehow can sense that they are hoping for that to happen. Just look at seven (the movie) and how the world is perceived by the main characters: "This world is so ugly to live in I think giving birth to a new life is cruel."

But I don't even need to look at the present situation, a few decades ago someone said:
"We will glorify war - the world's only hygien"

I think number X thinks the same. The world is corrupt, a war will cleanse it.

It's funny how those people can't see the inner contradiction.

Because it didnt change anything. People shrugged it off and life went on as usual. As someone who wants to see society change, she secretly feels dissappointed that it wasn't dramatic enough to make a difference.

In a way, it reminds me of 9/11 (which was also mentioned early in the series).

For some of us, Saki is the lead. She is the person through whose eyes we see the story. She establishes the frame of reference: dissatisfaction with contemporary Japanese life, and a feeling of being lost. And she and the group establish that dissatisfied young people have a lot going for them: she got the recycling thing going, the club pres keeps it going, and Micchon does the programming. I think your feeling is an indication of the fact that this show is trying to appeal to more than one anime constituency: shoujo and shounen both. Some elements of each will be useless to fans of the other.

You are lucky never to have felt that yourself. For Saki, life is boring and seems to have no goal. She is in love with her brother-in-law and can never even admit it. The only person who wants her is a dork that she really has no time for. She is recruited by a company that she can see would just exploit her. Ahead of her she can only see a life that is boring and unsatisfying. She wants something to happen that will enliven things, make them exciting and meaningful, rather than just a life of hard work for no real purpose and eventual delivery to the grave. She knows it is wrong for her to feel this way, but even some great disaster would at least be something.

This was a very interesting episode--I kept waiting for mononobe to turn out to be lying or try to kill Akira, but he did nothing--he just told him and let him go. I see that it is possible Akira sent away those neets to protect them from people who wanted to kill them; but now they are back and flooding the mall. When Akira didn't board the train, I really thought he was going back to Itazu; but of course that didn't happen. And Itazu did apparently betray Akira anyway by uploading all that data to Eden. It was nice that Saki finally came clean, was honest and thereby learned the truth.

When is this move coming out? Have they already made it? Is it actually going to be in theatres in Japan?

Actually the 12th player can also refer to the referee. We faced a twelve men team, indicates that the referee (the 12th player) aided the opposing side. Of course it all depends on the view point and after reading aohige's post:

Crowd, in the context of the show, makes more sense.

This was by far the best episode of the series. A complete information dump but still managing to hide and pose new questions for the last episode and movie. I just hope they manage to fit it all in.

I really hate ohsugi, I really do.

In the job interview, Saki was asked:
"Youngsters welcomed the Careless Monday incident, right?"
and she replied:
"The previous incidents didn't have any casualties, so I had that rash thought about it too."

Music was unexpectedly good this ep. I will laugh though if Juiz turns out to be the supporter all this time.

i've already acknowledged her role as co-lead which was why i made the useless complaint. in contrary to many others who like to adhere to their own set of strict principles, i accept very much the idea that there are things about others i just won't ever grasp, so many things that happen around me are just "as are" void of any rating system, any school of thought, or any good and evil. what i do want to ask though is this.. what is particularly interesting about her, what does anyone see and want to imitate, if at all, about this character saki that can be just about anyone else randomly pulled off from the street. i mean, she is that generic. and she doesn't seem to develop.. granted this story is more about suspense than character development.

i know you were responding to someone else, but what does 'the only person who wants her is a dork' mean.. is that some sort of pyramidal rating system? it seems like every character in the series including takizawa tries to please her but if your analysis was correct, she feels she has a plain life because the quality of her pursuers weren't as high as she wants, and the company she applies to (which she missed an interview for) denied her? i mean sorry, i just don't understand how a female's mind works perhaps because it's so out of touch with reality. sorry in advance for my lack of humor and imagination.

what contradiction are you referring to? actually a well versed person in politics and finance generally ascribe their beliefs to a certain set of principles and they can usually be either socialistic leaning or capitalistic leaning.. i don't see anything in this series that is particularly capitalistic leaning so even if anything becomes contradictory it's still quite a jump to immediately tag it with the capitalistic system. and it's also general knowledge that any social system is always a mixture of capitalistic and socialistic ideas at least in modern days, there are many conflicts of ideas in public and on the frontline-between the lawmakers. it can be very interesting if you know what's actually going on rather than the mass media stuff people are constantly being fed with.
