Very cute! I looked through the images for that volume too but they did not illustrate the kiss apparently. But wow, lol, the comment section on Random Curiosity. Some are trolling and another was saying that in vol 4, Siluca had sex with Marrine, the bride. Lol.

That's the thing. One person said she did it with Theo, the next person said she did it with Marinne, the bride, and then this one other person implied she did it with Marinne's groom. The person who actually read it said she only kissed Theo and held his hands, which you do see in an illustration. That was it.

Finished v1. Good enough for me to continue to v2. Since it is on offer right now at 300 yen per ebook until v8, I decided to buy until v8.

There are however various problems, or things I dislike, largely stemming from Mizuno's writing style. While I've watched Lodoss War before from the perspective of a D&D TRPG player myself (active from 1991 till 2004), this is the first Mizuno LN series I'm reading, so I sort of entered blind.

As a TRPG game setting, the lore and world setting of Grancrest is sort of interesting with the huge number of sub-classes, though I haven't delved into any of the game books yet.
So I guess the slight pre-knowledge and research of the background helps me get into the series.

Spoiler for v1:

The bads:
First of all, Theo is ultra bland. For someone who has the main hero potential based on chapter 1, described as a person who resembles the First Lord, with righteous and noble ideals in the current state of Chaos where Lords have all but forgotten the original purpose of their Crests, the build-up seems to be building him up to ultimately be at the level of the First Lord and attaining Grancrest in the final part of the series (however long it takes), BUT he IS actually a freaking MOB character in volume 1.

Except in chapter 1, he literally appears in the rest of the volume as a mob character., has few lines, just follows along, and does literally nothing (ok, he did do some work with regards to the salamander incident). Silica is actually the main character. While there is nothing wrong, it just feels weird reading it in that manner after all that has happened in chapter 1. Imagine you are reading the exploits of Liu Bei and the main character is Zhuge Liang and everything is told from his perspective. Or you are reading the story of Hanbei, and Nobunaga and Hideyoshi are mob characters. That's how it is for Grancrest volume 1. Well, Silica is really like the main character and it's not a bad thing, but her admiration for Theo's ideals plainly turning into a crush so early at this stage is somewhat inexplicable to me. The fact that Theo has hardly any development makes this worse.

Mizuno says in afterword this is a multi-protagonist sort of story, and I would have to wait and see before making further judgment on this.

Other than that, some of the resolutions I find it hard to buy into but it's not bad enough for me to throw up. As a Senki, it is at a decent level for enjoyment, but don't expect it to be filled with complex warring tactics and political maneuvers (while there are such stuff, they aren't really mind-blowing and I can't connect and empathize with all the developments)

The goods:
That said, there are some pluses. Some of the side characters are pretty interesting enough for me to want to know more about them, more so than Theo

Silica failing her first major negotiation when she thought would succeed was a good development, thanks to Abestos who we would all become infuriated with . The final standoff was exciting enough. And the subsequent failings of Silica in her bargain for surrendering again, because she went overboard in allowing Rashak to kill the fucker lord whose name I can't attempt to misspell because I forgot and end up decimating the famous knight or mercenary battalion/squad. All these are actually good developments to show how noob she is despite her talents and genius. And the supposedly pervy lord Virahr is not what he seemed to be. I was definitely surprised when his army came. Count me also surprised when I learned that expecting Silica to reject becoming his mage was also part of his plan.

All in all, 7/10 for volume 1.

I didn't read novel (it isn't translated, right?), but as I said before I myself consider Siluca to be main character and Theo to more of heroine. So I am certainly reading story of Zhuge Liang ,(though she is much cuter than Waver Velvet...).

The thing is, even heroines stand out somewhat in most stories, but in volume 1 of Grancrest, Theo is just a mob with hardly any presence for the second half of the volume, where more important things are happening

Maybe this will change, or the depiction in the anime will be slightly different.

Volume 1? Not really. And you won't really count the fight against Marrine and Abesto (Siluca's foster father) a betrayal really.
