Plot Summary:

Asano's novels revolve around Takumi Harada, a young man who moves to a mountain town in Okayama prefecture during the spring break before he enters middle school due to his father's job transfer. Takumi is a pitcher, and after the moves he loses faith in his own talent, when suddenly his classmate Kō Nagakura appears in front of him. Kō has a strong desire to form a "battery" (a combination of a pitcher and catcher) with Takumi.

Everyone's got a hard on for baseball. The directing was the clear highlight and the movement pretty clunky.

Episode 1

So we have Takumi who is a star baseball player and has changed locations. And he meets a local player who will soon be on his team. Takumi pitching and Go catching was pretty cool. When Takumi got serious, Go couldn't catch his pitches but he took five pitches to get used to that speed and started catching. This was quite interesting. Takumi will now be taking a low level team up to compete in the nationals just like he did with his previous team. There's something else going on with Seiha who wants to play but has a frail constitution and his body might not be able to handle baseball even though he has a pretty damn good aim like his brother. He aimed below the bird and actually hit the branch. Kinda interested in this.

11 episode for this? From watching the first episode, it looks like that this would take some time before the game start kicking. Plus, I get the feeling that it's more of character development of the pitcher than actual baseball tournament.

Can't say much other than this is pretty much what I expected. Guessing more focus will be placed on the characters and their development than the sport itself.

This series might be all about character development since the action in first Ep doesn't feel sporty at all

The first episode was quite atmospheric and had a very nice art style. It also laid some groundwork for the plot as we can sense some tension in the family, in regards to the mother, who came off as nagging and restricting, and especially in Harada, who seems to be going through some sort of inner conflict and is allowing it to affect his interactions with this family. It's only been one episode, so I'm not going to judge him for it -- who hasn't had this happen to them as they grew up? -- but because of this, it's looking to me like this is going to be more of a coming of age story.

There are two things I have to nitpick about though.
1). These kids do not look or sound like they're fresh out of elementary school. Would it be too much to ask for character designs that fit their age or to at least change their ages if they want these designs?
2). Seiha's voice was grating on my ears. I can't specifically pinpoint what it was, but in general, every time he said something, it irritated the hell out of me. It was like the VA was just forcing out the lines into the microphone. It's one thing if the character only has a few lines, but it's hard to bear when the character with practically the most lines in the episode is one that's barely tolerable.

I'll give this at least another episode or two.

I thought for sure they were in high school until their age was mentioned. It doesn't help that the MC is voiced by Uchiyama, who made no effort to sound younger.

I don't think that's going to bother me all that much though. I'm used to it.

So far my favorite character is the little brother, who happens to be the only one acting his age.

To me she came off as justifiably worried about her sickly younger son who just won't take elementary precautions, and annoyed at her eldest, who acts too big for his breeches, no matter how talented he is.

Stark700 Senior Member Join Date: Jul 2014 Location: Somewhere on Earth	Episode 1: Spoiler: That was good, the episode felt so natural and had a decent amount of realism to it. I also really like what they did with the OP song to combine the watercolors and artwork style. There's the theme of baseball although it's more casual rather than competitive play. Of the main characters, I like Takumi so far and his chemistry with Gou is quite something. Looking to more, good start for the season. __________________
