0.3% Although isn't good probably isn't that bad for the type of Anime Maria-Sama ga Miteru on TV. (By type I meant drama shoujo)

Let me paraphrase (from http://mariamite.free.fr/maria_article_eng.htm) "I believe that when the staff of this anime decided to make Marimite into anime, they seriously deliberated upon "To whom should they set target audience?" They chose DaFool , because DaFool spends much more money than high school girls. But they also desided, "We will never curry DaFool 's favor like bishoujo anime." They knew DaFool [was] bored with harem anime like Love Hina and lolicon anime like Chobits. DaFool had a thirst for something new. So they made this anime in elegant shoujo style. They think DaFool h[has] no immunity to this kind of style, and maybe they are right. |

well, after seeing something like naruto only getting around 9% (and FMA at 6%, seed at 8%), i'm not that disappointed in marimite's ratings anymore. it's for a niche group, and imho it will stay that way. fans will call out for it, and i'm keeping both my fingers crossed so that the producers will listen.

I agree that OAVs are probable, because the series is lucrative, but it does not look like a third season is slated anytime soon. Movies were mentioned but in a way I think an OAV series would be even nicer because they may not rush resolution as a movie must (not that one wouldn't be nice as well ^^). Aside from that, while I have not seen S2 13 yet, I have heard of a somewhat... dramatic visual ending, which sort of begs the idea of closure.
Also, people seem to have conflicting notions about which season was slower paced. I feel that the first season had a slower pace, and I thought it more pleasant and thoughtful, which in turn made the second season "slower" in terms of my interest... in a way the second season has been more of a fix for me than a pleasure. So I would hope for an OAV series to be nice, slow episodes. I don't see how this could be the end of MariMite, so I look forward to it in whatever form it comes in. Maybe the novels will be more accessible to people of other languages too due to eventual fan translations etc who miss the seasons. If I could get these novels soon I know I would jump on the chance to provide, so I imagine others feel the same way. So the conclusion is I think more MariMite is thankfully inevetible. |
