Yes it is. ^^ I'm sorry for the late reply though...
Watching this OVA and hearing her voice again...it made me feel so nostalgic. Watching her again in modern anime art style made me wanna watch the original again, it revived my interest in CCS. It was kinda cute seeing her react the way she did when he confessed to her. But you could also feel just how much she loves him back from the way she reacted and behaved. |

Watching this episode reminded me that I really did want to see more of this franchise. That was good and enjoyable. A pretty hard hitting emotional moment for Sakura when she did get that confession and then had to grapple with her feelings. Double shot when she finds out he is moving away...
Just a very cute prequel episode. Though now I just want it to be winter so the show as a whole can start .

I thought this prequel OVA episode was good. It took me personally a little while to get used to the digital animation, and non-cell shading. I personally can't wait for the Winter 2017 anime season to start up. Hopefully the OP+ED themes, and Kero's corner, and other little extras, from the original CCS, are back also.

ITS THE SONG!!! YES! Please, please let it be in the anime! I know it should be a given, but I want it so bad!
Ahhhh... anyway, about the OVA, it was such a nostalgia rush from the very first shot, and I mean that in the good sense. Seeing Sakura and the rest of the crew again was a delight, as well as all the places, like the king penguin slide and THAT shot of the bridge, but by far the besr part was the soundtrack; Tomoyo's bit at the middle, Sakura's moments of thought and uneasiness, they were all accompanied with tunes I remember well, even though I haven't seen the orginal in over a decade, yet I can still connect them all with at least one moment from the original. That's how you really know this series has stood the test of time. Gotta say, between this and Pokemon SM, this has been a week down memory lane for me. Also, this was my first time hearing the japanese dub for this characters, so I can't help but compare them the (fantastic) spanish dub I grew up with. General impressions are: -Sakura and Yukito sound better in the spanish dub, which gives a more mature tone to both. I'm aware that sounds counterproductive in Sakura's case, but the VA really pulls it off. Also, did Yukito's VA also did Koichoco's Yume? -Both dubs do Tomoyo well, so its up to personal taste: the japanese uses the very fitting ojou tone, while the spanish version uses a much stronger voice. That said, the OVA didn't show Tomoyo at her, well, Tomoyo-est, so my opinion could change later. -Syoran also works well on both dubs, with the spanish one giving him a deeper tone, though its still not that different as Tomoyo's. A truly wonderful experience. Here's hoping the anime keeps up. |

Too bad the producers decided to retcon The Sealed Card to go ahead with the Manga Ending (this OVA), because I thought that Movie was very cool for it's time and a great way to end the story but still with enough room to advance to this new arc.

I would never recommend going in blind. This is a direct sequel to the original anime, you're going to be totally lost if you don't watch it. Besides, the original anime is really good, so why not just watch it? There's still time.
As far as I know, the english dub completely butchered the story by trying to make Syaoran the main character. I don't even know how that would work.

Ah...appreciate the answers =03. My nostalgia remembers enjoying the show's 1st season, I believe I stopped watching the second due to the limited ability that Shaorun had(high level, limited use cards, like the Time one), but perhaps that was indeed due to the dub giving a different impression of the story. I'll try and give it a shot to see if I actually like the series as a whole now(nostalgia vs current feelings of the genre). Thanks again for the input.

Watched the OVA, and what amazed me the most is that all the voice actors sounded exactly the same as they did almost 20 years ago!
The episode itself was basically a remake of the final episode(s) of the anime with changes from the manga. There were quite a few differences between the original anime and the manga, so I wonder if they'll retcon other things like the number of cards or Meiling's existence. That would suck. On the other hand, I'd like them to include the plot point regarding Sakura's father that was left out of the first anime, one way or another.

On the contrary, this OVA, being an adaptation of the Manga Ending, pretty much removes The Sealed Card from canon, since the Clear Card Arc begins right after this OVA. Too bad, since I liked both movies, especially The Sealed Card

Same here. Felt like a really great end to the first series that did a good job of sealing the deal. It does make sense that the void card would be unnecessary, since there even existed cards previously that return things to nothing, including the Erase card. But that "Hope" card could have still remained. It would've been interesting to see just what sort of power it has. Oh well. Guess that means Meilin is gone too...
