Heh, I watched this movie on a recommendation about a week ago, knowing nothing about it, and Digimon was actually one of the first things that came to my mind as most similar after watching it.

Then I discovered the director was the same and it kinda made sense heh

That makes a lot of sense. Besides the obvious plot similarities, the directing style was very similar.

Great movie btw. but not as epic as the Digimon movie! Warm memories watching that movie with my friends when i was a kid.

This movie was fantastic! I was totally caught off guard that someone from Digimon could produce something BETTER than Digimon lol.

Oh, and what the hell is with blaming the US!? Saying the US sent that thing to Oz, not cool. It should have been the US testing it and it broke out into Oz. Not cool.

You know how it is after you eat something really delicious, and then for a couple days nothing tastes right because it wasn't up to par? That's how I feel about Summer Wars, now no anime I watch is going to be able to compare with what I just watched.

*sigh*

Great anime, I just wish there were more.

Actually, the idea does seem pretty plausible. The rise of increasingly popular services like twitter and facebook, along with the rising popularity of mainstream MMOs (WoW being the big player), does make me wonder how long it'll be until something like this takes off. Second Life is kinda the same principle, but obviously quite dated now.

It really wouldnt surprise me if this kinda idea takes off in 10-20 years time, as effectively an MMO stylisation would be a natural progression for the likes of the social networking sites, where you can do more than just message/share pictures and video with each other.

Just watched this film. Man it's just brilliant from start to finish. That's one hell of a family though.

Although original, you can tell that the director's been toying around with this "world" for a long time now.

The first time you see this is in the Digimon movie Bokura no War Game. The second time is from this short movie he made for Louis Vuiton. They're all very similar.

I guess in a way you can consider Summer Wars a Bokura no War Game remake. The style is the same so is the general plot line, except a lot more fleshed out (with a family twist) and a hundred times better .

What really surprised me in this movie is how he captured all these subtle emotions that are just absolutely perfect.

Spoiler for spoilers for some scenes:

Fabulous job. I always loved this guy and I'd be happy to see him up there with Miyazaki one day. I know he can do it!!!!

It only reminded me of Digimon at the very end. Everything else was new to me.

And I do wish we had a little more back story between Natsuki and what's his name. We needed a little more romance between the two...but then again, I am always looking for more romance, so yeah.

While first watching the film, i was hoping for a little bit more romance between the two, though by that last scene between the two i just found it was enough. Especially going by what i just witnessed for the past two hours.

I particularly liked the part after the grandma's death, Natsuki crying and Kenji holding her hand. Intricately subtle, I daresay.

Indeed. It's moments like those that make it okay with how they felt towards each other at the end. It was hinted at that he had some feelings toward her in the beginning and throughout the movie we can see how her opinion of him changed.

I have to say, at first her liking her cousin really pissed me off. But it turned out to me more admiration than romantic so it wasn't so bad.

I just ordered a new computer with HDMI & fiber optic out...I am going to watch this again once I hook it up to my HDTV & receiver. It'll be saaawwwweeeet.

Was he? Hmmm...you are right, since her Grandma did adopt him, that would make him her uncle. Because of his age I thought he was a cousin as I looked back on the movie. They probably had a more "cousin-ly" relationship though.

Wabisuke may not look the part, but the movie's website says he's 41. Could've fooled me.

I just watched this movie the other day. It was great. It brought back some childhood memories of Digimon.

I also like how they were kept up-to-date with the latest technology/software.
