Did he not lose the second time against Yuuki while using both swords?

nope he didnt use both

part of Vol 7 Chapter 10:

"As numerous players held their breaths, Yuuki and Kazuto used high level sword skills, including their own OSS, showing an abnormally dazzling and intense battle. This battle lasted more than 10 minutes, and finally, Yuuki used a brilliant god-like skill to defeat Kirito in 11 straight hits, and the crowd immediately roared and cheered in a way where it could shake the entire virtual world.

Having defeated Kirito, who made lots of legends—even though he didn't use his Dual Blades skill—«Absolute Sword» Yuuki was crowned the 4th champion of the tournament, and her name spread through the whole game of ALO, becoming a famed person throughout all users of «The Seed» Nexus."

After Aincrad arc, Kirito only Dual Wields on several occassion. In example are when he's fighting Eugene, fighting the Grand Tree troops quest, and when his/his friends life are in danger. Other than those circumstances he won't use it.

Didn't Kirito use Dual Blades during that fight with Eugene...?

An interview written somewhat in character answered the question of why Kirito didn't dual wield against Yuuki.
Spoiler for From the popularity polls.:

This is the reason why he won't Dual Wield(From Mother's Rosario)
Quote:
"Even if you ask me, for that level of fighting, someone like me can't determine whether they're serious... But Kirito wasn't dual-wielding, so in that aspect he wasn't going all out. Moreover, that..."

Lisbeth paused, her eyes reflecting the light from the fireplace, and took a look at the sleeping Kirito. His mouth displaying a constant smile.

"This is what I think. Probably, in a normal game, Kirito won't fight seriously anymore. On the other hand, Kirito only fights seriously when the game isn't a game anymore, when the virtual world becomes real... That's why it's better if situations which force him to fight seriously don't appear. From the beginning, he was the type to easily get wrapped up in troublesome things."

No, that's just the girls' interpretation. The only one who can give a 100% real reason would be Kirito himself.

^ I'll second that opinion. any hardcore gamer would know, once you get into a 1v1 PvP duel with a good player, you'd get really into it. Kirito has experienced this many times during his days in VRMMOs. I think as soon as Kirito realized how good Absolute Sword was, he'd be going all out.

According to the LN, Kirito was fighting seriously until about midway, at which point he said something to Absolute Sword (presumably guessing her situation), after that, I don't think he has it in him to finish the fight and he more or less backed down.

But wouldn't that be totally disrespectful to her? I don't think Kirito would be such a jerk. It's a duel, he should give his all no matter the circumstances, and I'm not convinced that he didn't.

Kirito didn't back down. As soon as Yuuki heard what Kirito had to say, she used a super-speed sword skill to end the fight, one that Kirito was unable to follow.

hmm, both of you guys make good points. however the gut feeling I got from the LN was that Kirito didn't step up and use dual blades because he didn't want to... As for being disrespectful, seeing as Yuuki isn't there to simply test her skills, but rather to find a partner, it may not be as bad as it sounds for Kirito to back down. as for some reason I feel like he didn't want to get too involved, and Yuuki said they can't recruit him as he had guessed their intentions.

Kirito did encourage Asuna to duel Yuuki afterall, maybe he intended for Asuna and Yuuki to become friends from the beginning? That guy acts dumb as a brick half the time and is super insightful during all the other times lol

It is bad. Kirito wouldn't do that. I don't buy it.

I don't know, it is puzzling

Edit: In addition, Kirito is not slower than Asuna, yet he couldn't even force Yuuki to use her combo (mother's rosario)... how do you call that trying his best?

But that counts for her too. A life or death situation would put both at the edge so it would be a totally different fight not only for Kirito but also for her.

So you can't use this argument to suggest Kirito wasn't giving his all. He was at his best for that particular situation, just like her.

There are few times that Kirito can't even follow Asuna's movement. Kirito is just fast with his reaction speed/reflex which made him look fast while Asuna and Yuuki both have speed that surpassed him. Good reflex and good speed are two different things.

We went over that already, and I'm not going to repeat myself. It's all there in the previous posts if you're interested.
