Read the chapter up to the newest chapter. The progression isn't that slow, but it's not super fast either. Haven't read Itsuten yet, so don't know how this compares.

Meh, I'm really having a hard time getting into this manga despite it having a fictional elements I like (vampires, post-apocalyptic future, mythological monsters etc) and that may mostly henge on my dislike of the MC. I generally hate the serious hot-headed types since they often need glorified babysitters to look after them otherwise they might get others or themselves killed. A lot of humor fall flat too, it just doesn't feel like everything meshing together quite well.

Oh well, at least Shinoa's cute.

Well I also have the same thought as you. This plot-character setting is just my favorite. A harem genre is enough for me to enjoy a LN but in the end the plot-character setting decided whether that novel is worth reading or not ya know? Kagami (The author )'s twisted plot setting about two friends who always remain best of friends walking in the different ways is what made me like Seraph Of The End and Densetsu No Yuusha best out of all his LN series.

On a side note, this is the first manga I see with author's notes (by Kagami)

As usual, I enjoy his 'screwing around' afterwords. There are also additional notes at the end of each tankoubon volume that sheds important information on a number of things. And apparently, it has gotten to the point where reading the prequel will be beneficial especially in terms of the Oni-equip skill (which apparently killed Mahiru; though I just barely started on v2, need to get back to it I guess) T_T.

P.S: I updated the first post to contain all the published covers (Shinoa looks too sexy on v3 for me not to post it

Spoiler for Spoiler up to chapter 6: Mikaela is still alive and is now a vampire but not just any vampire, a real powerful one as he was bitten by Kururu Tepes, the third founder of vampire who appeared in chapter 1. The vampires now plan to destroy humanity starting from the army. Mikaela still want to save Yuu before all of those happen. Yuu and co are finally allowed by Guren to make contract with the Onis to gain their demon weapon. We are also introduced to some other member of the prominent Hiiragi family (the family Shinoa hails from), who occupied important positions in the army. One of them, Shiinya, also appeared in the LN as a classmate of Guren. There could be mistakes though, my Japanese isn't very good. Last edited by Iggy_Pop; 2013-02-02 at 11:36.

Spoiler: He's still a mouthy hot head that needs his butt bailed again and again...Well that new character is a bigger asshole than him so I guess there's some relief... Not sure what was up with the latest raw Iggy mentioned above. It looks like his twin Yoichi turned into some special vamp or something while he got something minuscule...
