There has been no mention of this. The only reason an ability disappears from the book is when the original owner dies. There is also good reason for it to have been Hisoka, since that ability is bad news for him. That being said, the last bit is speculation. But Neon is most certainly dead. If she isn't, we would have been given that possibility. In fact, if she's still alive, then the scene where Chrollo being asked to tell a fortune served no purpose.

Interview with Togashi-sensei:

The headline - "I'm either going to finish Hunter X Hunter or die trying"...

I find it kind of funny to see people genuinely surprised at him saying this. Like not in a blamish sort of way. It's just that, this is how I always pictured him.

Favorite part of the interview: Togashi calling Gon crazy.

Well, he's not wrong.

I loved that whole passage, actually. He initially envisioned Gon as "every mother's son" and he kept that look and demeanor, but Togashi realized the manga would be a lot more interesting if Gon was a bit crazy. And then he blamed it on Ging.

It would be better he called Gon a psychopath. It rings better.

Ehhhh a psychopath doesn't have the ability to form bonds and friendships though. Gon totally does.

Gon just isn't held down by such irrational and limiting concepts such as "societal norms". If he's anything at all, he'd be autistic.

But he try to murder a defenseless girl who was under the intense treatment. Even the legendary assassin feels it was a bad taste to interrupt that moment.

How does that make him a psychopath?

I am just following what the google said.

Psychopathy is among the most difficult disorders to spot. The psychopath can appear normal, even charming. Underneath, he lacks conscience and empathy.
Plus almost everyone in the forum that I used to lurk also called him a psychopath too.

Even if they and I were wrong about it, psychopath is still sound a lot cooler than simply being "crazy".

The problem here is that he does not seem to lack empathy at all. There are a lot of people he cares about, and often gets angry genuinely on their behalf.

Anyway it's not all that important, but it's going to take more than that to convince me.

His moral compass being very specific/unusual and not determined by societal norms seems more in line with autism.

Conversely, psychopaths tend to blend in more since they determine that it's easier to behave the way people expect you to behave.

EDIT: Although the autism angle also kinda stops dead when I consider he doesn't particularly suffer from communication issues or overstimulation.

I still do not think he would be so great with animals if he were a psychopath though.

No way is Gon a psychopath. And Togashi didn't remotely call him one.
