Maybe we should say "Thank goodness" instead. A three-way arms race wouldn't exactly be pretty right now.

EDIT :

Tepco chief quits after $15 billion loss on nuclear crisis

The legal system is decadent. Why the heck isn't he sentenced to death for dereliction of civil duty?

Analysis: Insurers face big losses from weather disasters

Wait for it to drop a little more.......then start buying insurance stocks. Insurance has become a necessity in the first-world to shield against unforeseen circumstances, so unless the company crashes, there will always be people paying premiums for it.

I can't say if fallen is trully adequate, corruption was said to be a big problem back to the Cold War era, so it might just be than we have a better idea of the situation...

Superpowers always have corruption. Except in US it is legalised under something called lobbying.

While there's corruption in lobbying, lobbying itself is not necessarily corrupt. In a representative democracy, groups need a way of bringing concerns to the politicians representing them. As long as it's "my organization likes/doesn't like this policy, please support/oppose it" it's fine. When it gets to "my organization likes/doesn't like this policy. If you support/oppose it, there's a generous campaign donation in it for you" things become corrupt.

I hope this could make federal prisoners kick the wall after reading this. A VIP prisoner checking in at the so-called "Bilibid Hilton Hotel".

Pakistan Karachi attack: Attackers were pros
Quote:
A number of officials listed to me their observations, which reinforced the conviction that they were being confronted with a new kind of militant attack:

*Military formation: One injured sailor told an official that the attackers "moved and dressed like us". The militants moved in tactical military formation and spoke in military parlance. They spoke between themselves in Urdu, as well as a foreign language.
*Clothing and equipment: The militants wore combat fatigues, according to officials - and had night vision goggles, carrying rocket propelled grenades [RPGs]. "It takes months of training for ease with the goggles, and years to be expert," one official told me.
*Tactics and a plan: One witness said that even though the militants had clear sight of them, "they ignored us... Instead, they just aimed RPGs at the two Orions [planes] parked on the tarmac." They were clearly under instructions to destroy military hardware. They also changed tactics easily and broke away in groups, which clearly had different aims.
*Crack shots: "They were excellent shots - as good as any we have," said one security official involved in the operation. They used their night vision goggles to maximum effect, witnesses say - and that was an advantage they had until the SSG-N team arrived at the scene. When the gun battle began, one security official said, it was clear that these men could "hold their own" in a firefight. The fact that they had M16 carbines and sniper rifles also set them apart.

I don't see the reason to target the Arabian garb guy. So much for textbook profiling.
