No no no, absolutely not.
This series is hailing from angle that the MC himself being the master manipulator type of character with backstory that no one are expecting. And the battles in this series are far more strategy based. It is much closer to Greed Island arc of HxH than Darwin Game. Anyway, great news. I get to see one of my favorite in anime. |

I guess Darwin's Game couldn't be the only Death Battle series featuring an adaptable and clever Japanese lead alongside a blonde Heroine .
So our main character Akira is really into games over real life and can only really engage with games...which seems partially inspired by his crummy home life where he seems utterly alone. Kind of wonder what the story is there ? Akira is on his way to school and gets attacked by zombie Mr. X/Nemesis, although he acquits himself surprisingly well once he realizes he's in a survival horror game . Well, I guess if they're going to be our villains, having a fun magic cat girl and a character voiced by Akari Kito (?) in a China Dress isn't the worst choice. Of course both can probably kill everyone in that room if it suited them . So a whole group of people were kidnapped and made to look like they were dead so no one would look for them all to play a part in a...focus test that involves showing off their abilities and possibly killing/maiming each other? It's probably deeper than that, and I question whether they were all picked at random (especially when you see how Akira was scouted), but I wonder how much of the mystery will be resolved by the end . I really want to know what the redhead in lingerie's deal is. Did they kidnap her from her bed? She seems pretty smart...and sexy . Is that Kazuya Nakai? He can still play teenagers? Of course it would be a delinquent with a sword though ? I wonder how our male and female leads are going to end up coming together, because so far they've either just been in close proximity of each other or just seen each other in passing. I guess we're getting Yuuri's episode and her first match next week . Having an ability that depends on what others think your ability is sounds tricky and super overpowered. I kind of wonder how willing to kill Akira is because it seems like he's not out to kill anyone but wouldn't be against it if he had to do it . It's never a good thing when the villains take an interest...and it looks like Mion is going to come on to Akira in his room? Uh oh .

Akira is a pretty interesting guy. He's not too far in any extreme direction where I'd find him unlikable. Certainly a bit warped in his own right. Although if he wasn't then he wouldn't have gotten as far as he did in that unwinnable fight to start things off. I can get behind his desire to get some payback. Although I wonder how intensely he really cares since this situation has made his life a great deal more interesting.
Curious to see a bit more from Yuuri. Didn't get that much time to leave an impact in the first episode. And I also wonder how she'll interact with the MC beyond these short moments of proximity. Can't really say how his personality will mesh with hers since things have only just gotten started and again she's gotten few moments to do much of anything. Honestly not the worst in this general genre that I've seen so far. But a lot will depend on whether I care all that much about the cast. And it's a bit too early to determine that.

No terrible start for this genre, but if there is any explanation how exactly Akira managed convince his opponent, it wasn't adaptaed well. No seriously how does smoke and bunch feathers equate canon hand?
I don't think I would believe that in that situation at least.

That fulfilled his ability condition and allowed him to use the hand cannon.

So basically, MC's power is based on hype/psyching the the opponent out. He has to hype up his ability so that his opponent can give him an awesome ability. Just imagine him facing someone who just thinks he is crap and doesn't buy into his BS
