if you're going to use english terms, you should probably use the official english spell names. I think they use blaze and blazemost for mera and merami? I might be getting that wrong since I haven't played the US versions in a looong time.

Well, in this episode, only "mera" was used, so we only used "blaze". But next episode we'll probably use the Japanese terms, to be consistent (I translated the commercial part, someone else did the rest of the episode. Thus we have parts with romaji terms like "Iora" and "Bagi" and then English parts with "flame".)

Gomen.

why is MERA translated as flare?

i think MERA is just a chant for the spell. (specifically fire spell in this case)

later there will be stronger versions of MERA, such as MERAZOMA (from the finger), MERAMI, and uhmm... i forgot hahaha...
just finished watching it. Seems like my complaints were premature. When being used, the spells were not translated -- MERA was used by Derolin, IORA too, and BAGI. The only part when MERA was translated to to flare was the commercial skit.

hehe, gomen, my complains too early. (I thought if MERA was being translated as flare, then what were you guys planning on MERAZOMA, MERAMI, etc.)

THANKS~! Looking forward to next episode

So do you guys have the whole series raw, or just some episodes?
I'm just curious is all

That is irrelevant to the series discussion

i think i personally would rather have the spells translated to the english versions (if, indeed, that's what you guys are talking about). just because in all likelyhood, anyone who is super excited about this series because they played the old school games, is surely going to recognize the english equivalent of the spells. for me, that's nostalgia... as opposed to the few people that might have played the japanese version.

You could put like this:

In the sub:
"Take that stupid monster: MERA*"

In any other place, with smaller letters:
*mera = fire spell

In the process of translating Episode 2, I ran across another spell that wasn't listed before in this thread. Is "kiari" the name of something, or is it just my ears going bad?

You really should play Dragon Quest games =b. It's a spell.

Episode 2 was nice but I hope you have better raws for the next episodes.

Side note : I'm wondering what's the real name for the teleportation spell. In the sub it's Rula, in the French dub it's Lula and the French manga Rura. Some Engrish plobrems just like Reona/Leona.^^

I have taken note of that. The correct spell should be "Rura". Next time, we'll try to translate everything with r's instead of the engrish l's.

O well. For the next release, we'll watch those details.
I have the whole serie in french (well it never ended, but all 46..)
And i do beleive taking the original name is way better.
If you say fire for all fire spells, people might not get any difference between them.

Rura is the correct spelling. The Dragon Quest spells have no meaning in any other language that I know of so Rs should stay the same when translating over for the most part. There might be one or two exceptions but I can't think of them off the top of my head.

Isn't a policy not to upload or link to licenced anime?
Because I live in Mexico and this show has been aired at least two times in the last 6 years more or less by TV Azteca.

i was replying to that :

"But "flame" does sound better than "mera", because with "flame", you know exactly what spell is being performed. If we used "mera", some people might not get it if the animation isn't good enough."

Also if you are interested about the OAVs, it seems only the 2 and 3 can be find on DVDs / VHS not the one.

The 2nd one is not interesting at all, the third is fun i think
