39. B. For each row, move each shape in each grid one space to the right. Shapes 3 and 6 go to shapes 4 and 9 which are located in the next row. Shape 9 moves to where shape 1 was. Then change all circles to triangles, all X's to circles, and all triangles to X's.

If you figured out the answer to 39 right there and then while doing the test, you, my friend, are a fucking genius.

Except you don't actually need to shift the shapes to the right at all; just say that for the rows, all figures on the right of circles -> triangles, X -> circles, triangles -> Xs for their corresponding positions on the next pattern.

Still, figuring that out in a short period of time.. very, very impressive.



K, I put some work into 36 and figured it out (?):

The 9 patterns must work in correspondence. Consider how they work in rows.

Each color takes the turn in each row to occupy 1 square, 2 square and 3 squares. In the first row, light grey does that. In the second row, black does it. Therefore, in the third row, middle grey must have that role.

(1) Therefore, middle grey must be 2 blocks in the final picture.

(2) It's easy to see that the last picture must have one black bar (3 blocks).

(3) So, between E & F, we decide upon E. Because each row possesses two pictures of horizontal black bars and one with a vertical one. In the last row, there is one horizontal and one vertical. Therefore, it must be horizontal in the last picture.

So we choose E.

Still, figuring that out in a short period of time.. very, very impressive.

After obtaining the answer key, I went back and did the test normally, only answering each one if I could rationalize my decision. Since I couldn't answer seven of them, my "real" IQ score is 126, which includes zero wild guesses. I thought that the formula was fixed, but then I tried a couple of test runs. Unfortunately, every question seemed to have equal weight (you lose the same amount of IQ if you botch question 1 or 39):

Actually, I made a typo : O........ Just check what I wrote in my spoiler tag, that is a perfect justification for the choice F, and not E. It was late last night when I typed that up

I also know all the answers to the questions you couldn't answer.. I'm taking my final exam in a couple of hours, so I'll try to post it up end of today/tomorrow.
