Episode 3
So Hilmes escaped to the kingdom of Maryam after being saved. The king saved him for his own purposes. There Hilmes meets the princess of Maryam, Irina, a blind girl. He falls in love with her and stuff. But Lusitania invades and the selfish a-hole of a king surrenders and even sells off his freakin daughter. How big of a selfish scumbag is that king? Good thing Hilmes killed him. The purpose of mentioning Maryam, a kingdom which no longer exists, is that Bodin is planning on restoring that place. He wants to distance himself from Innocentus and Hilmes. Or he wants to give Pars another pain in the ass in the form of a fourth enemy. And Maryam was across the sea which means that Arslan will be facing them since his destination is a port city. As expected, everyone is believing that the story about Arslan not being of royal blood is true and he's being kicked out to prevent someone not of royal blood from ascending the throne. Andoragoras sure is harsh for not letting Narsus or Daryun accompany Arslan. And he even hates Narsus. He has Kishward swear loyalty to him again and probably does the same with Kubard and the other generals. Gieve, Farangis, Alfreed and Elam have no obligation to follow Andoragoras since they're not soldiers who have sworn loyalty to the king, and Jaswant isn't even a citizen of Pars so he's free to do whatever. The problem lies with Narsus and Daryun since they were explicitly ordered by the king to not accompany Arslan. But Andoragoras probably expected them to run off to Arslan anyway. But if Andoragoras really is planning on having Arslan take Pars for himself with his own army, then there won't be any trouble for Daryun and Narsus. And now we'll get a change in outfits as they go to meet Narsus's distant relative who will also probably be a strategist like Narsus or a leader type figure because he doesn't look like a fighter based on the opening sequence at least. |

I pity Hilmes for not having the good fortune to encounter people that may positively influence him. Irina may be the first and only person that could have saved him but, sadly, he let his thirst for revenge and desire for the throne cost him any possible means for happiness. Although I do wonder if Hilmes would show her the same kindess had he still been the Crown Prince before his father's death.
Anyway, I can only see a tragic end for this couple. Hilmes will certainly die but before or after Irina is a question - yes, I'm predicting Irina will die for Hilmes.

He had such a good thing, but he let it go to waste because he couldn't just settle. It makes me wonder if the masked shadow-man had any influence on him or if he really was just attracted by the hatred radiating from Hilmes. |

However, Andragoras is the kind of king who deserves to be unceremoniously killed in broad daylight by a group of 12 people (namely Arslan and 11 of his most trusted allies) just as to how Julius Caesar was assassinated in the Ides of March. I know it won't happen like that in anime, but I would really enjoy the theatrical side of a scene with 12 people (like in a jury) carry out the death sentence themselves upon the tyrant with multiple stabbings. |

I do get why Andragoras did what he did, the guy is terrified, and I mean scared to death of losing the throne, and Arslan campaing was already starting to threathen his hold over his subjects, as shown by Narsus and Dariun defecting, and the two swords guy implicitly allowing their scape.
The banishment he imposed on Arslan is by no means though love, is a way to get him out the way and retake the capital of his kingdom himself, the guy knows he's sending Arslan on a fool's errand, and the only reason he didn't killed him then and there was because that would have likely caused a revolt that would have costed him the throne.

I honestly do pity Hilmes now. If he wanted to, he could just forget about all this and walk away with Irina into the sunset. His desire for revenge is just too strong though and I highly doubt he will let it go. He is basically missing out on a chance at happiness and I'm not sure that this couple will have a happy ending.

Yeah, this is one of those iffy things where I am not too sure how season II will cover in just 8 episodes.
The subplot between Etoille was never in the novels. Though I appreciated the addition in the anime adaption. Unfortunately, we are now 3 episodes in out of 8, and so far, this subplot that enriched seasion I is suddenly not explored upon. OTOH, the series also omitted a few characters, so we'll see. - Tak

Episode 4:
That was well...interesting. Arslan made some new allies while also learns about what sea is like during his journey. Also, I think it's interesting that they introduced Shagad, a friend and probably rival(?) for Narsus. For some reason, I thin Shagad is hiding something from them.. Also from one of the conversations, I suspect that someone in Gilan is secretly feeding info to the pirates judging on their coordination. Good action this week. Daryun is badass as expected.

This is why I should stop watch the OPs for certain series...because they are often full of spoilers. Even if the show tries to hide it, seeing him fight Narsus in the OP makes it obvious that the new dude will be the main antagonist while the new bandana guy will be an ally.
