Doesn't the person who's about to be "befriended" look a little bit like Piro from Megatokyo?

He's not about to be brefriended, he already was. That's why he's in the hospital. The others Nanoha befriended avoided that, hense the 'results may vary' joke.

Don't worry, Nanoha. I don't think Yuuno minds the results of his befriending.

Probably because it shorted out his mind.

Judging by the chest, it may also have turned him into a woman. (Granted, he didn't have far to go.) Results vary, indeed...

On the earlier subject of Madoka, After watching the final 2 that just aired an hour ago.

Ahahah, oh wow. Ugh, Hate to say it buy Madoka's definitely surpassed what the MGLN franchise has done with 3 series and a movie.

Especially when it comes to story, ending, characters, and not just what eventually turned in to loli Yuri fanservice.

But Vita will always be <3.

Eh, what I've heard about Madoka has done nothing to make me want to watch it. It's really just a difference overall in terms of styles.

Nanoha is SRW-infused Magical Girls.

Madoka... is NGE Ep 25-26.

They both have their strengths, but they are not similar.

Cheers.

Problem I have with Madoka is that it's overhyped as being edgy and original when in fact it does absolutely nothing new. Start off cheery only to turn grim dark? Major character deaths? Contracts that are more than they appear? Done a million times over (Bokurano ftw), plenty of which were in the magical girl genre as well. If anything's new about it, it's the way these ingredients were mixed together. I suspect in a few years people will look back at Madoka and realise there really isn't anything special about it.

Now I'm not saying Nanoha is any better in that sense. It's much of the same in the way that everything's been done before and it's the combination that makes it seem new. There certainly haven't been any other cases where mecha anime values were applied to a magic girl show.

People tend to go "OMG it's so grimdark so that means it's super deep and better than all the light hearted kiddy crap!" but I still prefer Nanoha because it doesn't beat you over the head with the angst stick in an attempt to invoke drama.

Anyways, here's a pertinant image:

Despite having yet to watch it, that's the general impression I got from it, hence why I have yet to watch it. I have no real desire for a grim and dark magical girl show. Nanoha has it's moments, but it's overall still very bright, and that's what I like about it, and the magical girl genre as a whole. Most other genres are varying degrees of dark as it is, magical girl is pretty much much brighter on average compared to them, so I'd prefer it stay that way for a change from the rest of the crowd.

Anyways, image I've never really seen before.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e1...kan_Circle.jpg

Not sure if I should actually show it, but it's a much clearer picture of the full Belkan Circle, which... well, never seems to be shown, barring the reappearance of the Wolkenritter, and maybe one other odd appearance. Of course, it's probably been posted and I missed it. :P This is such a big thread, I can hardly catch anything.

Anyone else have new magic circles to show off? Always liked them. :P

I'm pretty much 'meh' on Madoka, but I have to admit... in terms of story it outpaces Nanoha by a mile. Not because it's dark (whether that makes the series 'better' merely subjective opinion), but because it manages to match to get down the writing aspect of introduction -> conflict -> twist -> climax -> resolution virtually flawlessly (though honesty demands me to admit I am not yet sure whether this is true for the resolution, since I have yet to watch the final two episodes). The only Nanoha season that comes close is A's, which is a well written and flowing piece of its own.

It also portrays an interesting setting, and uncommon artwork, which help elevate the work as a whole. The characters have a high moral diversity, and they all grow and change over the course of the series. Unlike Nanoha, where most of the growth is either focused on one or two characters, comes from supplementary materials or is absent altogether.

Is it a masterpiece? Debatable, but it can't be denied that it is a mahou shoujo of very good quality.
