I watched the episode a second time and I realized something in the OP. At about 0:45, it shows Taichi and the asshole music teacher jogging. Mother and son? Aunt and Nephew maybe? Also, Konatsu's brother, Makoto... yeh, he was voiced by Yuki Kaiji. No wonder he got emasculated . Despite watching it second time, it's still stupidly hard to imagine Wakana as the reserved, quiet type, considering she is practically ingrained as eccentric and outgoing due to her role as Isurugi Noe. And Tsuruko's VA as Sawa. It's seriously giving me a headache! |

Awesome first episode.
This hits the sweet spot on the sliding scale of drama vs. "eating cake" for me. Enough drama to be interesting and thought-provoking, but enough "eating cake" to also be a nicely relaxing watch too. I don't think I've been this pleased with a PA Works anime since my joy was so great that true tears were shed. Speaking of honest crying, I honestly was moved by a certain famous song in this episode. Really nice touch there, PA Works! I find the characters very likeable, very realistic, and I also like the quirky sense of humor that surrounds them. I really like both of these narrative concepts: 1. Konatsu passionately going against the Principle with her desire to sing at a big event. I like this as the overarching narrative for this show. It's good, believable, not overdone, and easy to get into. 2. Atsuhiro being the guy who's been out of Japan for 12 years, and hence goes overboard in trying to be Japanese. I honestly love this. It reminds me of Worf in Star Trek, and how hard he tried to be properly Klingon after living with humans for so long. If this continues to be executed well, it'll be a great source of comedy, character development, and maybe even interesting commentary on Japanese culture (but I'm not going to get my hopes up that high, at least not yet). So yeah, I loved this episode. Very lively and engaging. However, I know where Reckoner is coming from. Let's see if this anime can get through its first three episodes without HSI-style shenanigans or male character emasculation. Only then will I feel very confident about this show going forward. But I do think it has a chance... largely because Okada isn't writing this.

My bad. I swear it sounds like him though. Or maybe male VAs are mostly homogeneous and get emasculated roles regardless |

Seems to have been mostly a set up for plot points but it wasn't bad. Just a little underwhelming. I suppose like Natsuiro Kiseki, it'll get better over time as I start getting more attached to the characters.

This looks like an interesting anime.
Nice and relaxing with lots of school life and music too. New transfer student should spice things up nicely ^^ Sakai & Miyamoto starting a new choir club together, now that will be interesting to see. So far it looks it won't be easy at all because those two have totally different ideas of life. Will be watching this one since it has a nice atmosphere ^^

Hopefully we won't be seeing the same monstrosities of writing that plagued Aquarion with a no-Okada script.

Noticed one more thing about the op. There's a brief scene of the asshole music teacher and supposedly her best friend back when they were in high school. They looked pretty happy and outgoing and then suddenly switches to her walking with regret or some sort. I smell some major drama here.
Btw I really like the op. It's not like emo ripe at all, although it does use the same pop punkish sort of chords. The vocals though... Nano ripe can't sing for shit lol. |

The only thing I disliked about that scene was the porn stash cliche. That cliche made sense 10 to 15 years ago... not today when we're this far into the internet age, lol.
The odd joke at a male character's expense is no concern at all, imo. That's just normal. It's when an anime show seems to consistently go out of its way to emasculate male characters and/or make them all look like losers that I don't like it. Tari Tari isn't even remotely close to that, and hopefully it never will be. Quote:
My point is also that I hope Tari Tari keeps that up, and continues to avoid the worst aspects of HSI.

Haha. That was a fun episode than what I initially expected. Though the transfer student's design wasn't special, I can't say the same for his overall character. His lack of basic knowledge in the Japanese language and culture brings a smile to my face, and I love how strives to improve on both.
Will definitely keep this one. |

That and, porn stash could easily mean eroges, which would be a stash one way or another. Well, we're Okada-free. We should expect higher quality than: main cast gets lost in the artificial effulgence (holy hell, I used that word in a sentence) of the background cast, which is one of the biggest weaknesses that occurred in HSI. That, and the do-nothing-get-resolved-at-the-last-minute romance subplot, which I've noticed has become rather common in her works as of late.

Anyway, it's just that I'd like it if just once the "porn stash" joke was modernized with a reference like "If you don't do XYZ, then I'll get our non-tech savvy parents to look at your internet browsing history..." or something like that. While I'm sure actual porn magazine stashes still exist for some teenagers, I doubt it's as commonplace as teenagers simply using the internet for this.

After reading that comment about the OP sounding like Nano.ripe, I was fearing the worst, but it's actually pretty good. At least the vocalist's voice doesn't make me want to pierce my own eardrums.

That was a great first episode! That opening was just amazing though. The orange hair girl whom I can't remember her name yet is the most interesting character along with the foreign exchange student. Who is supposed to be the main character? The orange hair girl or the Minko looking girl?

3 girls and 2 boys... hmm interesting.
Possible pairings: 1. - Minko 2.0 x Austria-kun - Chihaya Ohana 2.0 x Nako 2.0 - Badminton-kun will stay a ronery boy 2. - Love triangle between Minko 2.0, Austria-Kun, and Chihaya Ohana 2.0 - Nako 2.0 x the horse - Badminton-kun will stay a ronery boy |

I have the feeling the Minko 2.0 would pair up with Austria-kun at some point since it's the most probable one and the Badminto-kun would get jealous while one of the other girls would fall for him. There could be a love rectangle again. |
