The way he phrased it, i thought he meant Yoshitaka will replace Umakoshi as the chief animation director.

That would be a tragedy. Yashima is by far the worst animator working on Omega.

I hope Umakoshi will still be on board for season two. Nobody comes close to him. His episodes are always delightful to watch.

We don't have any confirmation of the new staff on the next season yet. All we have to go on is the staff for the first episode of the new season, which is usually indicative. It's entirely possible that Umakoshi is still the character designer and chief animation director, and Yashima is standing in for the episode because Umakoshi worked on ep51. We'll just have to wait and see.

Well it's bad that Umakoshi is gone. But it's not really surprising, there is probably not enough lead time for him to do a season 2. No Yoshida I guess means Yuna is going be reduced to a more generic shonen type heroine.

Interesting. He directed 3 episodes of the Hades Chapter Sanctuary OVA (including the third one, which featured some beautiful imagery), and his style is very close to Shigeyasu Yamauchi's.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't mind if Nagamine took over as the new chief director, but I think it's more likely that he was brought over to direct episode 52 because Morio Hatano was too busy with 51. Likewise, I don't think they're replacing Yoshihiko Umakoshi as character designer and main animation director.

Wow, I really didn't expect so many staff changes. As I said, I think Nagamine is a fine director, but I'm bummed about Umakoshi getting replaced, although Ichikawa did a pretty good job on episode 46.
